At the SEMA show in Las Vegas, a silver 2010 drag car was unveiled. Showing on the hood were the words 'Super Cobra Jet'.

I think I'd rather have the 2008. Looked more nostalgic to me with the hood scoop like the 68's. Either way...I'd take one.

They're sweet cars, that's for sure. Ford recently announced the Boss 302 for SCCA racing as well. You know the announcement for the public version will be right around the corner.

Call me crazy, but what's with the 425 and 475 supercharged hp ratings when the GT-500 has 540 hp? Is this another 1968-era ploy for drag racing classification?

It's not only under-rated, but also detuned. From what I understand most are pushed well past 600 with little in the way of mods. I understand that the 2010 test cars are in the high 8s and low 9s. They are built to run in a specific NHRA class right out of the box. I would assume that once 'tuned' they would be reclassified.

Seriously, I don't know. As far as I know this is a one off, while the already sold out 2010 Cobra Jets are about $69k as were their earlier 2008 versions.

Actually all of the production cars are. This is a one-off built for SEMA.

I went to the all ford car show here in Wichita Ks this past June and the 1st and 2nd off the line Cobra Jets from 08 were there, It was awesome, they are 2 of the meanest sounding cars Ive ever heard in my life

My buddy has been sending me a bunch of pics of the new super cobra jet all afternoon. The one that was just built has a 4.0l whipple on it. The supercharger absolutely dwarfs the engine it's so large. These are all pre-production cars, the actual 50 won't be produced until January. Roush picked one up yesterday and they are going to be somewhere in North Carolina this weekend or next week with it on the dragstrip.

The automatic versions of these come with a 2 speed powerglide! I know it's a Chevy trans, but it is a very popular racing trans so I can't blame them too much. The manual tranny is made by Liberty. They can be configured with 5 different engine combinations.

+1. my buddy has an 08 and it has 18 miles on it.. car would be way more fun on the street

True, it's such a popular aftermarket trans for drag racing. Only the original idea was chevy for most of them that are out there now! It's kind of like a Ford 9" rear end. There's nothing ford about them either in most drag cars.
