clunk noise from rear passenger side
hey guys, just picked up my car and am trying to iron out some of the general issues with it. the only one that really bothers me is the clunk coming from what seems to be above, around, or in the passenger side wheel well area. its a clunk that occurs with every bump, so I assume it is something with the suspension. nothing seems to be bumping around (exhaust etc.). I dont want to bring it in for service without being more knowlegable about the situation. has anyone had any experience with this?

Re: clunk noise from rear passenger side
Could be a poped weld we have seen problems like these with noise. Just something to check.

Re: clunk noise from rear passenger side
Sounds like either exhaust or a blown lower control arm bushing. I have had both problems.
Exhaust could be banging on the subframe connectors.

Re: clunk noise from rear passenger side
Exactly what I was thinking. These bushings get worn QUICK.

Re: clunk noise from rear passenger side
If you search you will my old post, I had the same issue. I like a few others had a popped spot weld. I took out the back trunk lining and folded the back seat down and right in the pas upper corner where the seat lays back is where mine popped. I just stuck 2 washers in there to space the gap and its very tight, I know have no clunking no matter how hard I hit the bump's/

Re: clunk noise from rear passenger side
Check the exhaust where it bolts up close to the rear bumper. Part that holds the exhaust tip area of the exhaust. Mine clunks rite there and it sucks. About to do some other measures cause tightening doesnt help.-Shane

Re: clunk noise from rear passenger side
I've got the same mystery banging noise coming from the rear passenger side. Seems to be most pronounced at lower speeds (below 40 mph) over bumpy roads. I've torn interior apart, body panels, and now plan on moving to control arm, rear shocks, brakes next...noise sux!!!

Re: clunk noise from rear passenger side
ALLDATA reported a rear end noise associated with the rear sway bar. Search the TSB's - you may find the fix. I will try and post it here tomorrow

Re: clunk noise from rear passenger side
Exhaust........mine was rubbing on the floor pan.
You might also check the tail pipes (I dont mean exhaust tips) Mine was also rubbing on the rear sway bar. I didn't notice it cause everytime I would jack up the car, it wouldn't rub. Only until the car was on its own weight.

Re: clunk noise from rear passenger side
I've had to tighten my tailpipe mounting bracket on my magnaflow exahaust system made a pop/clunk while hitting sharp quick bumps. The part that attaches to the tailpipe itself.

Re: clunk noise from rear passenger side
I thought mine was the tail pipes and it was loose but the noise was comming from the exhaust just off the muffler hitting the stabilizer/sway bar thing. Not sure it thats what is called, sorry. Loosened up the exhaust realigned it and tightened and noise is no more. -Shane

Re: clunk noise from rear passenger side
i have found when this noise is there that the upper torque box where it mounts to the car is broken thus causing the noise any time you accelerate an easy fix if it isn’t too bad is to install a set of upper battle boxes and that generally takes care of this issue

BTW I have looked for the broken spot weld and that is not causing it. I have thought about pulling the rear seat assemblies and having someone in the back listening to pinpoint were the creaking is coming from. Thx

Re: clunk noise from rear passenger side
i have a clunk or two... mine sounds like the rear deck (speaker deck) is rattling...
im prettyy sure the lca bushings are shot.. car gets put away in 2 weeks then torn down for a whole new rear suspension... ill be doing a bit of welding on the body to tighten things up and replacing all suspension components back there... ill let you know what i find.. good luck with your though... id say top possibilitys are LCAs, exhaust, spot weld, loose 460, loose spare tire, shot UCAs, busted trq boxes

Re: clunk noise from rear passenger side
I am running the Steeda aluminum UCA and LCA with the poly bushings. From the drivers seat, the creaking sounds like it is coming from high in the right rear wheel well, but I have pulled the liner and looked at the welds. I was thinking about pulling the control arms and re-lubing all points to see if that helps.

Re: clunk noise from rear passenger side
I've got Eibach Sportline springs w/poly bushings, everything else is factory out back. I will find that gremlin if it's the last thing I do!
