Drag Radials

I'm getting ready to buy some drag radials. i'll need some 315 35-17s. This car is my daily driver and I need a good sticky tire that doesn't wear too fast.

Which is better

Nitto?
Mickey Thompson?
Hoosier?

I've heard Nitto is the best for not wearing out as quick. I just want to find the best of both tread wear and traction. Any other suggestions welcomed.

Re: Drag Radials

Others will chime in, but I think the best of the both worlds, traction and tread wear, would be the Nittos.

Re: Drag Radials

im going to vote for BFG. they hooked hard for me and i got 10k miles out of them which i thought wasnt too bad for an inexpensive tire.

Re: Drag Radials

get a set of 17x10.5 wheels and slap some of those new hoosier drag radials on there and use em at the track.... i have the 315 35 17 hoosiers and they are nice... enough said...nittos are nice but after about 4-5, 7 sec burnouts at the track and they are done.... you can get the 315 35 17 hoosier drag radials which are more like slicks with 2 lines in them for $425 shipped to the house for both from leathal performance

Re: Drag Radials

why not get some MT ET Street DR's and a set of wheels and change them before you go to the track? That's what I do.

Re: Drag Radials

Nittos are the obvious choice for daily driving, BUT:

The Mickey Thompson tires will hook HARDER than anything else.

They won't last very long but they will give you the most grip, and the hardest hook.

The nittos are a great tire for the street, but they will NOT hook at the track unless you pretend your John Force in the burnout box.

Re: Drag Radials

I would go for the BFG's. The have better grip than the Nitto's and last almost as long.

I have run both so I am making a fair comparison. Also I had BFG's on the Mach for close to 4 years and it was/is my daily driver. You should be able to get about 8-10,000 mi. out of a set.

Hoosier's are great but I would not want to get cought in the rain with them.

Re: Drag Radials

Put my BFG's on last month, and they hook quite well. Can't comment on wear yet though.

Re: Drag Radials

The Nittos were O.K., I have a set of BFG's that I picked up cheap and theyr'e good too. I don't drive on the street with them though. I LOVE the Mickey Thompson's. They bite the hardest and seem to bite harder as they wear out.

Re: Drag Radials

Nittos last a long time and are really a good tire in the rain for what they are.

Re: Drag Radials

If you want to hook skip the Nitto's. They blow donkey chunks. BFG's or Mickeys are good choices. A better choice than the 315/35-17's are Mickey Thompson 295/45-17's. The taller sidewall is the key.

Re: Drag Radials

If he wants to run a tire that wont wear too fast then he should just run a street tire.

Re: Drag Radials

All three are great tires. I suppose if you don't hammer them too hard on the street, they should last awhile. Although most have a treadwear rating of ZERO. I ran a set of Nittos on the street years ago, and I was surprised at there drivability in the rain. They didn't last too long because I abused the snot out of them. I bought a used set of BFG 16's mounted on stock GT wheels and I went 1.9 60's on them. That time wasn't great, and if I practiced more, my times should be better. Just my preference, but I liked the M/T's the most.

Re: Drag Radials

Hi my name is Gilles and I was wondering what do you guys think of M H drag radial how do they compare to the rest? I have a 2000 GT with a Mach1 motor pushing 400hp on the crank 5 speed with a 430 gear and I need good traction . So I can't decide between M T and M H . 315 35 17 .

Thanks Gilles

Re: Drag Radials

Gilles, you can't go wrong with either tire although a 315-35/17 isn't going to hook nearly as well as something with a bigger sidewall. If you have a 10.5 inch rim M&H makes a 325-45/17 that would be a better hooking tire. MT makes a 295-45/17 which is what I run and this tire also works well.
