Single Chamber Flows kills gas mileage? True/False?

Hey fellas,
I am blessed to have an 04 black Mach 1, with o/r bassani x-pipe with super 44 flows dumped/turn-downs. All summer long I have been getting about 17mpg avg until 2 weeks ago I installed a JLT cold air intake, and this brought me up to almost 20mpg for the first two tanks of gas. Last week I replaced the super 44 flows with single chamber flows and now all of a sudden my gas mileage is now at about 16mpg... What gives? Is it known that single chamber flows kills your gas mileage or do yall suggest I check into another aspect of this gas mileage. I know that single chamber flows are considered racing mufflers but I didnt think it would kill the gas mileage as much as it has. What should I do to improve my gas mileage? Thanks in advance for yalls advice.

I have original 40 weld in Flows and pulled 27 mpg going to Myrtle Beach. My previous best with bone stock mufflers was 25.

If you haven't had it done your car probably needs to be tuned with those mods. Mine ran worse after a Magnaflow catback and a C&L cold air until I got it tuned.

I have heard that singles are worse than other mufflers for flow. I cold see where that might effect mileage. From what i hear magnaflow has the best flowing mufflers but they are alot quieter.

Re: Single Chamber Flows kills gas mileage? True/False?

for the most part all aftermarket mufflers reduce back pressure.

less back pressure, air flows more freely, more efficient motor, better MPG

true some more then others but ive never heard of a aftermarket exhaust part costing mileage... in fact improving mileage is a major selling point next to horsepower.

your right foot will be the only thing that effects mileage negatively after a exhaust mod.

all I know is my mach gets on average 16-18 MPG, but I drive her everyday, 80% in town and have never ran a full tank of gas through her on highway only.

Re: Single Chamber Flows kills gas mileage? True/False?

My Mach got 23 mpg city consistently with 4.30 gears, magnaflow magnapack catback, bassani catted x pipe, 3/8 inch intake spacer as the only mods and i was on the stock tune. I dont know what the highway mileage would have been as I never took her on a road trip. My guess would be 23-25 because of the 4.30s dont do so well on highway.

Re: Single Chamber Flows kills gas mileage? True/False?

get tuned and report back, though it's probably just too much fun with the loud pedal
