Head Ticking noise

How many miles before the head tick shows up if cooling mod hasen't been done yet? Looking to buy low mileage Mach 1 don't want to have to pull the heads on one after purchase. Thanks

Re: Head Ticking noise

May show up right away . ..may never show up. Using the right Antifreeze mixed properly , good oil correct weight , and using water wetter in the rad all seem to help though. However i have seen some machs where the noise comes and goes !

Re: Head Ticking noise

I know, I'm a roll this morning. "Head tick"; welcome to the DOHC world; I would pay attention to rich!'s post. Keeping these engine cool and using high quality 5W-20 synthetic oil is essential. I'm coming up on 80,000 miles and don't have anymore head tick now than I did when new. But, I do pay very close attention to engine sounds; oil quality and proper warm up are essential to the longevity of these engines.

Re: Head Ticking noise

I would say that if it does not have it by now, you are not going to get it. When I first bought my Mach I thought I had the dreaded head tick, but it was just a rattling shaker (TSB for the isolaters) and dang noisy fuel injectors. There use to be a video out there of a couple of cars with the tick, and man is it crazy loud!

Re: Head Ticking noise
