Re: For the EXPERIENCED guys, Motor build

all depends on how much money you want to spend. personally id go with a set of comp cams instead of crowers.
what intake are you planning on running?

Is an A/M TB really necessary at 400rwhp?

not trying to be a smartass like usual. I'm seriously wondering if and why.

Re: For the EXPERIENCED guys, Motor build

Ok children, back to the subject at hand. Lol. IF, and its a big IF, i can sell the vette i would hopefully have 6K to work with. I figured ported intake, stroker or big bore stroker kit, something around the same lope as crowes 2s, Not sure on the head port, long tubes, and a programmer. I saw an article awhile back where they got decent gains with mod rockers(I think thats it) but i cant find them anywhere.

The easiest way to get the power you are looking for is to sell both of your cars and buy mine, plain and simple! See sig below.

Re: For the EXPERIENCED guys, Motor build

You might want to ask M1M to post a vid or check his credentials...I don't think he has actually built a 400 HP NA motor. And in your thread I think you said "actually built one".

Re: For the EXPERIENCED guys, Motor build

I know 6k doesnt go along way but its what ill have to work with. Parts will have to be decided to work within that. I REALLY want a turbo car but maybe just a rotate assy and used s/c may have to work. And 4V FURY, your car would definatly save alot of headache but it isnt very easy selling vehicles now days. How much u asking just out of curiosity?

If you're looking for nice power and HAVE to stay under $6, that's what I would do.

but that's me.

Re: For the EXPERIENCED guys, Motor build

Contact John at Modular Performance. They have built many competitive NMRA FS, PS, and even Renegade motors. You will at best get 50% usable info here. There is some pretty good stuff here but this is after all the internet. A person could give all kinds of advise weather he has any real qualifications or not. This kind of post usually just ends up in an argument.

My first post was meant to tell him or anyone else for that matter that if you're serius about doing a motor the internet is not a good place to ask for advise. Someone who has the experience of mpjonn (and there is many others) who has built tons of wicked mod motors (just ask Shawn Jonston, Jeff Schmell, Mike Catapano, Brian Foley, Naz, etc, etc,....) will give him sure fire advice. You know as well as me what he can get from the internet. He will run into budget trouble with anyone on this project.

If I were in his shoes with $6K I would try it first with the stock bottom end, assuming its in decent shape. The rods a fairly light and to compression ratio is OK. The stock bottom end will handle 400 NA HP. If I put 6K into the top of the motor and all the best bolt ons I’m fairly confident I could make 400 NA with the stock short block. Even doing it this way the 6K would be close if not impossible if you couldn’t do the labor yourself.
