How to wash the shaker

This may be a stupid question, but how do you go about cleaning around the shaker. I'm guessing no water can go down it into the intake or else you get water in the air intake.

Re: How to wash the shaker

Easiest way to do a deep cleaning on it is take the two bolts holding it on off and then soak it in simple green and then scrub with a stiff nylon bristle brush. Other products can be used for a really nasty looking shaker such as pig spit, but I have found that Simple Green can revive even the nastiest of the shakers.

On the car I just clean it with my wash soap and then the same nylon brush. No worries of how much water goes down there, there are drains built into your shaker for a reason. Lol.

After you wash it - apply some Mother's Back to Black. I use that on the chin spoiler, mirrors, etc.... Hot sh!t.

Re: How to wash the shaker

To answer the question he asked:

Just wash normally around the shaker. It has drains to route the water to the ground. I avoid hitting it directly with the spray so the drains aren't overmatched. Any water that gets into the engine compartment will not get to the intake, though, and will not cause a running problem.

Just open the hood and clean it before you wash the car.

Is there any liquid run off with the Back To Black??? Kinda like if you use too much tire shine and you find it on your fenders???

Re: How to wash the shaker

I just use normal soap (along with the rest of the car), gentle nylon brush on the shaker itself, as others have said... the same drains that deal with rain keep up just fine with rinse water.

I also use Back to Black... not every wash, but I rub a bit on whenever I wax the car just in case I accidentally touch the shaker with wax. If I get any on, the layer of Back to Black keeps it from sticking, then I wipe the excess off with a cloth after I'm done waxing the hood.

That's almost certainly more often than I HAVE to use it, but the stuff works great on any black (especially textured) trim surface to keep those "ooops" amounts of wax from being difficult to remove.

Re: How to wash the shaker

back 2 black FTW! The shaker will look better than new.

i have found that applying it with a round wax applicator pad works the best to get in between the grooves.

Re: How to wash the shaker

I hate all those greasy armor all type products personally. I have used BTB and it works alright.

A pencil eraser works great for that.

Re: How to wash the shaker

Mine was looking really faded along with the black Honeycomb rear panel. Some Mother's BTB and a little elbow grease got them looking brand new again!!

I use a round sponge applicator that use for polishing your shoes.....it fits just right on the front spoiler also. The handle keeps your hands clean and keeps everything off of the paint!

Re: How to wash the shaker

My car doesn't sit outside much, I haven't ever thought it was terribly faded but from what I have learned on here and it always helps mine, just wash it and get on that with a decent brush (not a crazy wire brush). Back to black works on many things so I'd say it's cool, I just haven't used it on the shaker before, wouldn't hurt. I think it requires constant redoing. Da Colonel swears by the Pig Spit and I still haven't gotten that stuff even though I keep intending to do so. Some others say that's good stuff, too. I'd either go with soap or simple green & the brush or order the pig spit. My opinion, but i haven't seen any opinions to argue with really.

Re: How to wash the shaker

Do not worry about getting water inside your shaker while washing your car, there are two drains. First drain is on the rubber boot that surrounds the shaker and seal to the under side of the hood. The second drain it located in the front of the shaker located on the drivers side. In fact look at the left front of the shaker and you should have two hoses that go from the shaker down past the power steering pump and allow that water to drain under the car.

As mentioned you should not get any water in you intake unless you spray more water inside you shaker than the drain can evacuate.
