Why has gas dropped?

I'm not complaining by any means, just curious why it has dropped a lot lately. It's as low as $2.57 for regular around here at places like costco and $2.60-2.7x at regular gas stations.

Is it just supply and demand?

Re: Why has gas dropped?

Oil prices are down from a high of $147 a barrel to $75 a barrel. That's the reason gas prices are down so much.

Regarding supply/demand, yes, global demand is dropping because consumption not only of oil has dropped sharply.

Re: Why has gas dropped?

I've had the news on almost all the time now but I guess I just missed the $/barrel. Last I heard it was like $80 something.

Sorry... I'm no economical jeenie-yus.

It takes time for the prices at the pumps to catch up with the price of crude. There is still gas at the refineries that was refined when crude was over $100 a barrel.

Basically like the rest of the investors the speculators are scared and not buying oil. Therefore they are not artificially driving the price up.

Re: Why has gas dropped?

The increase in prices has caused the demand to drop.

BTW - Ford stock is close to the price of a happy meal.

This is true but, when the price goes up on the barrel price at the pump will increase in 1 minute.... but when it goes down even a small amount takes over 1 week....! They just greedy b@stards!! Lol!

Re: Why has gas dropped?

We've usuall got the cheap gas, but I'm still paying about $3.45 for premium. Oil is dropping at the whsle. level, gas is doing similar things, but it still seems that the retail price is lagging behind in the free fall. But like Mistergou said, when the price rises it takes about 1.8 milliseconds for the gas stations to raise their prices to follow.

Re: Why has gas dropped?

Still expensive here in N Alabama; I don't understand the wide dispairity in fuel cost in the different areas of the country; but the SE seems to be up there with the highest areas still; which confuses me even more...
In my area: 2.99 reg; 3.19 prem

Re: Why has gas dropped?

I think the price for a barrel of oil has dropped because the wall street hedge fund managers have pulled back and taken thier oil future profit. I believe the prices were artifically inflated by futures speculators.
