the other day i was at a restaurant and when i left i turned my car on with the door open and a cloud of smoke out of nowhere came out of my exhaust! at first i thought it was my cousin smoking a ciggarette but it was just too much smoke and thats when i realized it was my car.

any idea what it was??? this is the only time its done it. and it was a lot of smoke. i had to close the door .....

Re: smoking when mach is turned on

does it only smoke when you first start it or does it keep doing it the whole time the car is running?

What color of smoke? I installed a home made catch can between my pcv and intake and it cleared up a smoke on start up issue I had. It was put on about 10,000 miles ago and no smoke on start up so far. You just have to remember to epmty it.

Maybe raw fuel that was burning or vaporized as you turned off your car because of revving or gunning the motor right prior to getting into the parking place. The converters will burn hot enough to ignite unburned fuel once you turn ignition off. I had a car one time that would blow out a perfect smoke ring if you revved the motor and turned off the key. It looked and sounded really cool when it backfired the smoke ring out the tailpipe but I now realize I wasn’t doing the engine any favor back then (LOL).

Re: smoking when mach is turned on

a blueish tint is normaly oil, but if it hasnt done it since then, i dont think it would be your valve seals or anything like that.

Re: smoking when mach is turned on

I agree with B's Azure that a catch can will help if it happens again. Mine did it maybe 1-2 times a month but it hasn't happened at all since I put on the catch can. It's just an oil separator for an air compressor that you stick inline between the head and intake.

Re: smoking when mach is turned on

There's a stock hard line running from the driver's side head back into the side of the intake manifold. You just remove that and replace it with some sturdy 3/8" line and some fittings to connect the oil separator. There's a few threads on here about it if you search "oil separator" or something like that. Just make sure you use some beefy line or it will collapse under vacuum.

Here's one:
