zex nozzle replacement??

ok, so i got my mach tuned a while back, and last time i was home i wanted to try it out. so i get in, start, and arm the system.
then i hear a hisssssssss.
im like WTF, is that?
so, i see that the nitrous "line in" is freezing at the the fitting where the line goes to the ZEX box.
so, i shut it down and tighten the line. and do it all over again,. now its good. but, i wonder if that was leaking when i had it tuned. might be the cause of my low numbers and ZEXTREAMLY low TQ numbers.

so, on the table is, take it back and get it retuned, and also, replace my stock kit nozzle with a SS one. i think i hears of the stock one freezing and shrinking at the end cutting flow, isnt that correct?
so, where do i get the new SS nozzle?
thanks, and sorry for the long post.

So, when you opened up the bottle is when you herd the nitrous leak? If that was leaking like that during your dyno session, then you will loose power.

What kind of Air/fuel ratio were you getting and what shot are you using? Zex wet kits run rich.

Zex rates their shot at the motor. A 100 shot will show about 75-80 rwhp. I don't think you need to worry about the aluminum nozzles shrinking and causing loss of performance to affect the rated shot of a nitrous kit. All that is taken into account when the design & research was started for the kits.

Re: zex nozzle replacement??

yeah, when i opened the bottle, i could hear the hissss.
so i inspected the lines up front, and sure as expected. the line was leaking.

and i dont know the pill size. its on the sheet somewhere, ill have to find it. but the dyno chart i had, said 150 shot. i really dont think thats correct from looking at my numbers. that should be more TQ than that. might be time to use a differant kit.

My experience with the Zex wet system is it's designed for up to a true 125 shot. When I went to 150 shot NX jets in this kit, there was hardly any gain in power. 175 shot showed 0 power gain. The nitrous solenoid in the NMU has a small orfice, which is the restriction point after a true 125 shot.

Also, you might want to check the porcelin filters that are located inside the fittings on the inlet side of the NMU, here is a link to this.

Re: zex nozzle replacement??

so, now you got me thinking of just up grading to a NX kit. how much is interchangeable from the zex to the NX? cause im after the TQ.

Eliminate the NMU and replace with nitrous/fuel solenoid while retaining the staninless steel plumbing, even upgrade the noids to nozzle lines to -4. Upgrade line from fuel rails to noid to -4. You would then have to go with either a mechanical WOT switch or a TPS WOT, which NX has both. You can stay with the Zex purge noid/plumbing, just like I did.

Now you would jet according to NX requirement. You also need to know what your factory fuel pump duty cycle is at. You also need to know what the fuel psi drop is on initial activation with 150 shot on up. You will probably want to look into fuel pump upgrade.

Re: zex nozzle replacement??

ok thanks phil.
thats alot of learning im going to have to do. i think this will be my next upgrade tho. im on stock long block, and stock fuel pump. so i guess a focus pump, and select NX parts are on the holiday list. lol

Hey sampson101st, if you give me the jet numbers I'll give you the shot amount. I've got my sheet right here.

46, 34

please explane the numbers to me, i know the differance is more, but the example of, the 030, and the 34/. i dont understand what the 030 one is, nitorus or gas. not sure. thanks and if anyone can tell me what the kit comes with that would be great. thanks

Zex wet kit #82023 is a 75-100-125 shot system. Comes with the following jets:

75 = 40 N2O/26 fuel
100 = 46 N2O/30 fuel
125 = 54 N2O/34 fuel

NX wet system jets I used:

75 = 41 N2O/22 fuel
100 = 52 N2O/28 fuel
125 = 57 N20/32 fuel
150 = 62 N2O/34 fuel

Re: zex nozzle replacement??

ZEX Wet kit, Mustang GT 1999-2004, #82217

75 hp n20-40 Fuel-26
100hp n20-46 Fuel-30
125hp n2o-54 Fuel-34
150hp n2o-67 Fuel-38
175hp n2o-83 Fuel-43

So I guess the question is what kit are you running.
The 030 and the 34 are both fuel. The "0" in front of some of the numbers means nothing.

Re: zex nozzle replacement??

The jet sizes are the orfice inside diameter. Example a 30 jet has a .030" I.D.

Re: zex nozzle replacement??

ok, so i got a problem,
it seams, that i have a 40 jet for n20, and ? for fuel.

becuase, this is what i have left from the kit at my house not installed in the mach1-030, 026, 054,46, 34

so with that being said, i BET<<<<<< he used the 40, and drilled it out. but why the hell would he have used the smallest of them instead of just going up? and what the hell is the fuel jet size? cause i have 5 jets in the bag, and that means i would have only one installed.

god, i hate sending people to do work for me when it comes to cars.

You need to know what jets have been installed in the nozzle. Just pull them and look at them, the size is stamped on the jets. A magnafying glass helps. Make sure you keep track which jet came from fuel/nitrous side of the nozzle.
The nozzle is marked fuel/nitrous.
