Re: mach 460 sound system question
This is one of the only things I hate about this car. They put in a stereo system that can not be upgrade with any aftermarket speakers. Just to get better speakers you have to get new everything. Unless someone has found speakers that truely work with this goofy wired stock system.

Re: mach 460 sound system question
Upgrading is probably the best thing to do in my opinion. Started with the speaker upgrade then did everything.

Re: mach 460 sound system question
Not a swap, but added the 1000's amps and subs. It sounds ok, but I think your money would be better spent elsewhere.

Re: mach 460 sound system question
Just re-do the whole stereo, you wont regret it if you do it right the first time. The stock amp rack is a @&#^$ to take out, but its probly 20 pounds of extra weight not needed. I kept ALL wires intact incase i ever wanted to throw the stock speakers, amp rack & headunit back in if i sold the car. Thats the only good thing i found about this system, every wire is connected through a wiring harness type of deal so no cut / spliced wires.
Edit: I thought i would tell you what i have in my new system. -Panasonic head unit - Looks nice but EQ sucks but thats why i got... -kicker EQ (mounted right above the head unit) -Infinity Kappa 6X8 speakers all around (14 guage wire going to all 4) -Kenwood 4 channel amp (had it laying around decided to use it) -MTX mono amp 801D 800 watts RMS for subs -Two 12" Atlas subwoofers in a ported box -4 guage power wire running from battery to a distribution block, then two 8 guage wires going to ams, and 4 guage ground for each amp. Outcome:It sounds great, but i would NOT sure infinity Kappa without subs, WAY too much treble lol

Re: mach 460 sound system question
Yeah, Kappa's need a good sub with them or else the lows are just way to overpowered by the mids and highs the kappa's are capable of producing. I had Kappa's in my last car and **** are those good speakers...the clarity is great.

Re: mach 460 sound system question
The main wiring harness that goes to all the rear gear-- can you pull it out easily? I couldn't find the "beginning" of it after I removed the amp/speaker enclosure thing but I didn't want to tear the car apart too much.

Re: mach 460 sound system question
They make an adapter to plug into factory harness then change head unit and speakers and amps. Its expensive I have looked at fry's they had a Kenwood system priced for 2K with navagation. I have seen one here someone did that even had tuning for the car.
