Re: How do you feel about Manual Vs. Auto
The only time I wish I had an auto is when my knee is bothering me. I was raised by my gearhead dad to require a manual in a sports car.
I'd probably look at going auto if I raced.........................alot. He used to race alot and most of his cars were manual so.. |

Re: How do you feel about Manual Vs. Auto
the thought of re-building the e40d in my bronco is more than enough to make me wish it was a 5.0 5spd

Re: How do you feel about Manual Vs. Auto
Auto's are hard to sell when it's a performance car. Example = there's a new Shelby GT at our local Ford dealer that is their first Auto in that car. NO bites. The 5 speeds sold when the price was lowered to within reason. The Auto is for sale at MSRP.

Re: How do you feel about Manual Vs. Auto
I love driving manual trans. I wouldn't mind a real clutchless paddleshift system like on the big bucks cars But I really just like driving a manual. Sometimes my legs get tired, but only because I cannot find a comfortable driving position in this car.

Re: How do you feel about Manual Vs. Auto
Of the 9 vehicles I've owned, only 2 have been automatics. Shifting is more fun and gives me something to do.

I love my auto...especially after dropping in a 3300 PI converter. Sometimes I do miss rowing through the gears.

Re: How do you feel about Manual Vs. Auto
Well I'm 64 years old and raced stick shift cars from 1958 to 1973 and now I have a bad rotor cup in my right shoulder and the pain is too much after speed shifting a 5 speed.
I spent a lot of sleepless nights going to bed I wanted to order the Mach with 5 speed only to wake up knowing I could only use an auto. I had to give up archery and a few other things but I'll be damned if I'll give up drag racing!!! Hope at leased some of you guys understand! PS none operable frozen rotor cup only the pain of therpy helps. Bill

Re: How do you feel about Manual Vs. Auto
I love rowing the gears in 5 speed, but it wouldn't bother me to go clcik click sometimes.
Alot of the race cars are autos, just a matter of preference is all!!!!!!!!!!

Re: How do you feel about Manual Vs. Auto
Manuals might be more fun on the street, but a built auto is the only thing worth having out at the dragstrip. There's a reason you don't see many manual transmissions at the dragstrip.

Re: How do you feel about Manual Vs. Auto
Autos are more reliable on the strip... so I can see what you're getting at there. Personally I think manual is a lot more fun. I drove my friend's Formula last night for the first time, and it's an auto. It felt so weird not shifting. Sometimes when I'm stuck in traffic, I WISH I had an auto, but when it's not constant stop and go for 4 hours in a 3 mile stretch, then I'd much rather have muh manual : )

Re: How do you feel about Manual Vs. Auto
To me, there is just something about blipping the throttle for a perfect downshift as you clutch out...and throw the lever to the next lowest gear. It's almost like getting "intimate" with your car. In 94% of situations a good auto is more practical, but I didn't buy my Mach to be practical.

Re: How do you feel about Manual Vs. Auto
My Mach is auto. I HAVE to have that because I have 2 screaming kids in the back and auto pilot is the only way i can go. I had a hard time finding an automatic Mach when I was shopping around. A manual would be faster and more fun, but I kind of enjoy the fact that there are fewer of us autos around.

Since mine is a daily driver I like the auto. But for pure fun you can't beat the manual.

I went 5 speed on my Mach, but when I'm in a hurry it sounds like an automatic.

Re: How do you feel about Manual Vs. Auto
nothing like running through the gears, lemme tell ya! I think it's a prerequisite. So I gots me a 5-speed for da DD!
Having said that, at the track, I've NEVER seen an auto miss a gear. Something to think aboot.....
