car in the shop...Should i do the bottom end?

dropped the car off at the shop. so they can do the heads cam lower intake long tubes etc. he said there gonna go ahead and yank the motor anyway that i may as well just do the pistons rods bearsings seals rings etc.

is there any gains to be made from doing a larger bore? and does it cost much more for that?

What do you guys think

im going to spray the car like crazy hoping for 10.0s

Re: car in the shop...Should i do the bottom end?

that all up to you, the price will be a good bit higher than just doing the topend. but in the long run it will be cheaper to go ahead and do it while they have the motor out, that is if you trust them.

Re: car in the shop...Should i do the bottom end?

they gave me a price of doing forged pistons rods seals bearings etc.

would it be much more for them to have the machine shop do it for 302 size pistons?

While it's out and apart, you might want to check into replacing the powdered metal oil pump gears with some billet gears just as a little insurance to protect your investment against pump failure running higher rpm/horsepower.

I am in the same boat as you. I thought I would be doing a stroker this Winter but it seems like from what I read a lot of the 03-04 Cobra guys aren't seeing that much of a gain. Plus if its not done right your going to have a serious problem.

I wouldn't bother personally with the big bore or stroking, just don't see the value, unless you are going for bragging rights and money is not part of the equation. Definately forge up the bottom tho.

well the shops gonna do it and do .030 over for no extra charge...what kinda difference will that make or is that just standard when doing the motor?

Re: car in the shop...Should i do the bottom end?

Our blocks service limit is .030, so going to it wouldn't be nearly as safe as a .020 bore. Again, some added insurance for the block

Re: car in the shop...Should i do the bottom end?

what is the displacemnt of .020 over and of .030 over?

im gonna try and spray around 200-250 on the motor. if itl hold that much. really want to run low 10s in this thing for the money.

Re: car in the shop...Should i do the bottom end?

If you have a good shop I wouldn't sweat havin it stroked, If you're staying N/A you gotta do something to make up for the extra weight of the forged internals or you'll just have a safe motor that's got less power than before unless you go for p&p on the heads & intake with cams etc. (H'mmmm),

I want it all got to have it all

I prefer to do the bottom end as the top end talks too much...

Re: car in the shop...Should i do the bottom end?

I'm still new to the 4V Mod motor, but in my opinion, if they pulled the motor out already I would bore and stroke it with forged internals. I had a DSS 5.0 stroker with 18CC pistons in my 00 F-150 with 14# boost and no issues(which is going in my mach soon). As far as its performance over a stock bottom end, I did notice a huge low end torque difference but never got to dyno it due to a drunk driver totaling it for me. But again, Thats my opinion.
