Re: Spec Stage 2 clutch ?
I have a SPEC aluminum flywheel and SPEC 2 clutch in my car. It is a little grabby but not bad.
My biggest complaint is that it was not balanced when shipped to me. I called the tech line after I installed everything and my shaker had quite a bit extra shake. Tech was useless. I had to pull the damned stuff and send it to a local machine shop. They balanced the flywheel, then keyed the pressure plate to the flywheel and balanced the assembly. After my second install (in Texas when it is 100 degrees in my garage) everything was smooth. I called SPEC and they would not cover my balancing expense even though their kits don't require balancing. No customer service and no quality control.

Re: Spec Stage 2 clutch ?
I think you'd be better off with an FRPP Terminator clutch.
Remember, the stronger the clutch, the more driveline parts you break.

Re: Spec Stage 2 clutch ?
I've been happy with the performamce from my stage 2 but it does chatter some. If or when I do it again, I'll be going with a Ram clutch.

Re: Spec Stage 2 clutch ?
Pedal pressure is stiffer than the stock but within a few days, if that, you will get used to it. It is kinda grabby but once again, you will get used to it. This is actually my second aftermarket clutch. I think that I warped my clutch plate on my DualFriction within 3000 miles. this one has been on for about 20k now and not one complaint. My steel flywheel was balanced but if it wasnt as stated above, oh man SPEC would have got a phone call and I would demand a new one free of charge. I do have some chatter at low speeds and I am keeping a steady speed, normally just driving through a subdivision, parking lot, etc.

Re: Spec Stage 2 clutch ?
I have been running the Spec Stage 2 clutch w/aluminum FW and 4:30's for 10K miles with no problems (5K + launches), slight chatter but it's not to bad. Pedal pressure is not much more over stock. When I did the clutch install I also did the firewall adjuster and triple pick-up clutch quadrant. If you go to a Stage 3 clutch you will need an upgraded input shaft or chance breaking your stock shaft because their is not much slip with the Stage 3 disc.

Re: Spec Stage 2 clutch ?
I have never experienced "chatter" but I hear about it from a lot of people. I wonder if some people experiencing chatter actually have out of balance assemblies.
I say this because I don't know anyone else who has had their SPEC stuff balanced and my stuff was significantly off. The shop I went to was showing me a Corvette assembly which was off more than mine. They said they see more SPEC stuff than enyone else.

Re: Spec Stage 2 clutch ?
I talked to a guy @ D&D Performance, the tranny specialist. He said he loves Spec, because they bring them customers once their clutches destroy trannys. He said the harshness of the Spec clutches (not sure what stages) are the cause of breakage. My friend had a stage 3 on his 500rwhp 95 Cobra with a 3550 TKO and that clutch put a crack in the housing about half the length I personally run a CenterForce Dual Friction and my other friend with a blown 2000 GT runs Centerforce DFX, both clutches feel great and a super street friendly. Also, you can run a 10.5 or 11" set up, it doesn't matter. Some hard core racers prefer the 10.5" even if they came stock with an 11" because it's a little lighter.

Re: Spec Stage 2 clutch ?
I had a stage3, and it ended up breaking my input shaft, Im sure the stage2 is not as harsh...but they tend to "shock" the drivetrain more than other clutches.
Im going with a dual friction, number of 600hp cobra guys running it.

Re: Spec Stage 2 clutch ?
I know I am a little late on this, but what everyone else is saying is true. The stage 2 seems to have a lot of chatter (which my technicians tell me is the throw-out bearing) and it also seems to slip from time to time when it gets really hot. Overall I honestly am not satisfied with the clutch and wont buy another spec.

Re: Spec Stage 2 clutch ?
Thanks fellas for all of the good Info..... My stock clutch is doing ok for now... My reason for looking to upgrade is because soon im changing my whole rear setup to 4:30's, 31spline moser axles and a good strong dif. (havent decided which yet)... also i already have a NX wet kit which will be jetted for 100shot once its installed. Im planning on a set of BFG 315 DR's out back and plan to lauch this beast at 4-5k RPM... I want a clutch thats going to hold up. Right now based on what i hear... im leaning toward Centerforce DF.

Re: Spec Stage 2 clutch ?
what PP was being used, i used a PP from a DF kit and had that problem on my 10 spline DFX. when i went 26 spline i used the CF II PP that Walt@CF told me to use and havent had that problem since it all went back together.
This was on Jesters car wasnt it? lol
