Thoughts on a cheap DD

I've been thinking about getting a daily driver to save on gas and to put less miles on the mach.. I just don't want the econo box that everyone else has. I found this car local to me, what do you guys think?

For a few thousand more you can buy a new Focus. They really have some good deals on them now. I would look into that .

If I was going to get a cheap DD then it would be a Ranger, not only do you get a DD that gets good mpg but you also have a truck when you need it.

I have a 2002 Toyota Corolla 4-Sale that gets 41 MPG, has a 5-Speed & will go like 350,000 miles without breaking anything. Them Toyota's make the Ford's & Chevy's look really bad at the auctions, they really do..

Fly in 1-way & drive her home!

Re: Thoughts on a cheap DD

I agree.. get a new focus ( 100,000 Mile powertrain war)
I paid $14,000 out the door for the one I got. All power with heated seats and sunroof.. They only wanted $11,000 out the door for a bare bones one.. Find a lot that has a 06 leftover you should get about $6,000 rebate!

Thumbs up Re: Thoughts on a cheap DD

I have been thinking about looking into a used VW GTI TDI. They get 41-45mpg highway. Since its a diesel, it should last for a LONG time. May be something to check out.

That's what I have. My 97 4 cylinder/5 speed gets about 25 in the city & about 26-27 running 75MPH on the interstate.

Even in the stop & go I deal with in the Memphis area, my worst city tank has been 23 MPG. He's redlining it every gear change or it needs a tune up IMO.

It's not just to save money, As I posted I would like to keep some miles off the Mach and somethings I did not mention are, 1. sitting out in the FL sun every day at work is very hard on the paint. 2. My son will be driving in about a year and we will need a third vehicle.. SO don't be confused. I asked about a car not about what you think about my motivations.

I am still leaning toward a GSXR1000 and then I could be called FastGixxer, but this option is not pratical at all.

+1

My bare bones 4-cylinder Ranger gets a minimum of 25 mpg, and cost about $12,500 new out the door. It's doing an excellent job of keeping miles off of the Mach 1, and is handy when a truck, albeit a small one, is needed to haul things that don't fit into a Mustang trunk or (gasp) back seat.
