Car Shutting off during idle

My car shut off while i was coasting in neutral coming to a stop light. Not once But 4 times. I didnt know what exactly it coulde be. but for starters i wanted to check my oil ( as usual ). I had an oil change done by my dealership last week, I checked my oil level and it was on MINIMUM. I added another quart of oil and brought it up to max. But i still dont understand why my car was shutting off at every stop light.

Any one have an idea???

Thanks

Are you using an aftermarket CAI?

Have you cleaned the MAF since you installed it?

If not, get some Lectra-motive electrical contact cleaner, remove the filter and hose the MAF element down with the cleaner. The oil from K&N type filters can coat the maf wires causing flaky behaviour.

It could also be IAC. Get something like a screwdriver handle or rubber mallet and have someone start the car with part throttle. Let off the throttle and when it's about to die, whack the IAC. If it starts to idle normally, then your IAC is sticking. Some people say you can remove it and clean it with carb cleaner but most of the time you need to replace it.

Also be careful about using the dipstick to determine if oil needs to be added. Most of our cars now show halfway between low and full when they have the correct amount of oil. You should confirm that 6 quarts has been put in immedately after an oil change, then run the engine to fill the filter and when it's had time to run back down into the pan, check the oil and note the level. That's the real full level.

Re: Car Shutting off during idle

Re: Car Shutting off during idle

Ok, I cleaned the MAF, It did not stall on my test drive. Also my idle was not bouncing like it was before. It may have done the trick. Ill keep you guys updated on everything. Thanks again

let me know if you have any more ideas. i might buy the IAC anyways and replace it, just incase

thanks

Re: Car Shutting off during idle

My tuner told me that all mustangs idel too low so he bumped mine up to 900 rpms. See if your tuner can do that, that should cure the problem. He told me that some mustangs idel so low that during idel with the air on and rolling up/down both windows(and 1 other thing that i cannot remember) makes them stall and it is caused from the low idel.

Actually, I just noticed that you live in Michigan, go and see Lidio at Alternative Auto Performance in Mt. Clemens and he will set you straight.
