Re: Comp Cams Stage 3 Installed
oh you know you can't get away with telling us that and not post any videos or sound clips. Why did you switch from the fr500's to the comps? How are the stage 3's as far as street use goes?

Re: Comp Cams Stage 3 Installed
i will try to post some sound clips tommorrow. im up late being a ******* at the moment. its 4 in the morn in oklahoma. and i just wanted more top end power with my setup. i figured with either the aviator or a really good port job on the intake it should make some mean power. with just installing the cams with stock intake it bangs my 7k rev limit. it hits it kinda hard honestly. cams are rated at 7500 power band. could go more with right air flow. so we'll see whats up in a week or so and another dyno tune..

I would like to check out your car sometime. I live in MWC. I would like to have your cams but I have got to do exhaust work first. Impressive numbers!

is it the cams, springs, and valves from the FR500 kit? or just the cams?

Do you have any before and after dyno numbers for the FR500s and the Comp Stage 3s?

You have 20K miles on the FR500s. Any before and after numbers on those?
Thanks, Jerome |

Re: Comp Cams Stage 3 Installed
when i rebuilt the motor the fr500's went in it. so the only dyno numbers that i have is before the motor gave out. then it was 291hp 315tq. after rebuild it was 355hp 326tq. with comp cams and an intake should at least be around 380 or more we hope.

The reason why I am asking is because I went with the 01 Cobra intake cams. I thought about getting the FR500s. I want to see what the difference in performance between the two is. I know others on here would like to know also. Thanks, Jerome |

Re: Comp Cams Stage 3 Installed
I would think research into Naz's setup (pre intake) would provide that info.
Jerome, what HP gain do you estimate you got from just the Cobra intake cam?

Re: Comp Cams Stage 3 Installed
I did the cams, reshaped the bowls, did some work to the short turns, valve job, and ported the stock lower at the same time. Well, actually Al Papito did it for me. That all caused a drop in hp/tq below 4500rpms. But I gained a bit from 4500-6800rpm. Here is a little spreadsheet I put together.

Re: Comp Cams Stage 3 Installed
Oh yeah. Saw that before, nice work. As a guess maybe the cams were 1/4 to 1/3 of the gain? And to complete the hijack (sorry guys) are you still running cats?

I'm very interested in hearing this. I wasn't aware comp cams have 3 stages for the 4 valve. What are the specs for your cams? |

kerleyfries, where did you get the stage 3 cams? I thought that crower only made the "stage 3" cams...

Re: Comp Cams Stage 3 Installed
i got the cams from jdm engineering. jim jr's friend bought them for his 01 cobra and then sold the car. i got the cams for 850 bucks. i couldnt pass them up and yes comp does make stage three cams. i think im in love with them. i just raised the rev limit to 8k just to see what she would pull. so far it stops pulling at 7400 rpms. i think its cause i have the stock intake still on her. i think she will get another 3-400 rpms with ported intake. the internals that im using are rated at 8000 rpms and 900hp. so i think it can take the abuse. i tell ya what though it sure is fun seeing the tach go all the way past 7k. i just lmao everytime i get on it. as far as the cams specs are: duration @ 50 = in. 242 ex. 240, lift = in. 475 ex. 450 and the lobe sep is @ 114. the duration is huge and the lobe sep is quite large as well. they are very close to the crower cams as far as specs go. but i couldnt get this price anywhere. im sure you can't blame me for it..
