Clutch???

How can I tell if I need a new clutch? I'm new to manuls and want to know what to look for before I start to have any problems. How long should the stock clutch last? I don't race the car and only occasionally drive a little spirited. Thanks guys.

My stock clutch has lasted over 2 years & 300+ 1/4-mile passes, many of them launching at 6800 rpm on slicks.

Still works just fine!

If properly adjusted, your stock clutch should last a good long time...

Re: Clutch???

The stock clutch on my 88 Mustang GT lasted 130k miles. I don't think the Mach's will go that long but hopefully at least 60-80k.

Re: Clutch???

if you adjust it regularly i dont see why you couldnt get 60K or so outta one.... unless you hit the strip every **** weekend. Mine has 23k with no passes but ALOT of powershifting on GT's and its like new.

Re: Clutch???

I have a hunch the stock Mach clutch is at least slightly better than the Fox car came with. Possibly about like the '93 cobra which is not a big difference. One trend I'm noticing is that several people have reported breaking the trans after installing racier clutches.

Re: Clutch???

My stock clutch only lasted about 16,000 miles with about 15 passes down the 1/4. I didn't think that the stock clutches are adjustable though. What happened to mine was all of a sudden, the clutch had to be almost all the way disengauged before it would grab. Went bowling and smelt something funny, I thought that maybe another car was burning antifreeze, got out from the bowling alley and the smell was still there over 1 hour later, that is how I knew that I fired my clutch. Maybe it is just me, I am a pretty spirited driver most of the time.

Re: Clutch???

I had some really odd problems almost like that with mine before I added a Maximum Motorsports quadrant and firewall adjuster. Made a huge difference on my car.
