Help, ran over a big rock
Well today is a sad day,
She has taken her first hit, as we were traveling down a NARROW, widing, 2 lane back road today, following behind a Jeep at about 60 mph, there it was right in the middle of the road, on a blind curve, a big A** hunk of concrete. I could not avoid it so I Lined it up and went right down the middle, the sound was aweful! Damage report, no damage to chin guard, but the cross member, transmission pan, and cross pipe on the exhaust all are dented. The transmission is my concern, the rock plowed a trough across the lowest portion on the pan, pushing it in about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch, the pan did not rupture, and shows no signs of leaks, What I need to know is there ANY internals that ride in that portion of the pan that might be damaged now? We made it home fine, but I am really concerned there might be internal damage. |

Re: Help, ran over a big rock
I feel for you, I just hit at a glance a tractor trailer tread on I-75 today, luckily it just tossed the car in the air a few inches on the drivers side with no damage. As for the pan...if memory serves me right...the filter sits just above the pan floor and it is either pressed or bolted into place. I doubt it hit the valve body, but you'll need a new /used pan, filter and fluids...bad part is, if it tore the filter loose and anything that was kinda solid was suddenly sucked up into the internals from no filter....could be bad, but drop the pan and inspect. I wouldn't drive it anymore until it is looked at. Check housing for cracks while your under there or any other damage.

Re: Help, ran over a big rock
Do our tranny's have a tranny filter? Any way, i would at least do a fluid flush to make sure nothing damages the internals. What do you guys think

Re: Help, ran over a big rock
You have a 1" plus before you start hitting the valve body or other internals.

Re: Help, ran over a big rock
That dent can create an "island" in the middle of the fluid a starve off your valvebody. Better get it fixed soon.
