Just cant be without a Fox body
Hey all,
Going to pick this little beauty up this morning. Its the 84 20th AE. Strange, it is a T-Top car with no A/C 5.0 4V and 5 speed. The guy still has the TRX wheels! Being a non-eec 5.0 car, I am thinking some old-school stuff at the motor. My last Carb'd Mustang was about 20 years ago and anyone have any thoughts on what to do with a Non-Roller? Also, if anyone wants a Lotus I put my project on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=4560841402 |

Re: Just cant be without a Fox body
Check out MustangGT.org for an extremely helpful site on the Fox Chassis mustangs. I used to visit there daily when I had my 88GT. Word of warning, there is an inside joke on the site about calling the Fox Chassis(correct term) a Fox Body(not correct).

Re: Just cant be without a Fox body
The value on the 1979-93 Mustangs are going up the 84-86 GTs prices are up to $6,000.00 now in mint con. last year some them were going for $2,500.00.
Best bet is restore the 20th Anniv. GT like it did when it came off Ford dealers lot, plus Ford didn't make to many 20th 350GT in T-tops to only (5,261 20th Anniv. GT350s were made in 84) Here's production numbers from 84 Mustangs

Re: Just cant be without a Fox body
I had that same exact car back in 89, T-tops and everything. I wish I would have kept it, it still had the dash badget for the 20th AE. I have yet to see another 84 AE with this badge, and you can't buy it either. Nice looking ride, congrats.
I think I might be getting a mint condition 83. I am waiting for some pics, as its outa town. |

Re: Just cant be without a Fox body
I would think they would be worth more than $6,000 - high mileage 87-93 cars are fetching more than that in worse condition than this car. Very nice car - good luck with it

Thing is I believe the springs have either been cut, or been torched because it rides like there is NO springs!! He hit a bump in the road and I thought the dash was going to fall off. This cant be a set of springs made to lower the car. Is there any more sites for foxes I could ask about this?

Re: Just cant be without a Fox body
Very nice! I know what you mean too, my first Stang was a Fox and they'll always have a place in my heart. I want a nice '79-'82 and I shall find it. Specifically a 1982 GT. Nice find

Re: Just cant be without a Fox body
I have a 86 gt been in storage for last ten years I finnaly got it out last month.its been in my garage and I go look at it every week.I bought it in 86 with 3200 miles on it now it has 86000 and no rust because my garage is climate control.I do love that car almost as much as the mach-1.I always liked the 84 and 85 because of the tee tops.

Life is GOOD!!
Thanks for the reply's.
We got it home this evening and took it for a spin. What a blast!! Listining to the secondaries kick in, it handles really well. I love this car, not Mach 1 love but **** close. I can remember being in H.S. when they came out and how I wanted one. There was alot of negative mail in the Magazines at the time about Ford using the GT-350 stripes on the side but, who cares. The owner gave us the original TRX wheels and a spare GT-350 stripe kit. The owner wanted to give us the original 7.5 rear but I passed. He had changed it to a 8.8 3.27 a few years ago. It is fast in a 15-second way . But it is so unmolested has some minor surface rust, all in all totally worth the $2000.00 I paid for it. I will probally order more than two grand of stuff from 5.0 resto this weekend. Here is a pic of the Mustang fleet |

that's is one of the weirdest looking cars I have ever seen. It being a Lotus makes it that much weirder. A Lotus you can get groceries in. lol

Re: Just cant be without a Fox body
I bought my 88' GT back in April of 91, have kept it all these years. In fact it still is my daily driver, just hit 200 thousand miles with out a rebuild on the 5.0 . There are so many parts out for them, it is almost limitless what you can do. Wish I could get over 70 thousand on a Borg Warner T-5 though.

Re: Just cant be without a Fox body
The 85 GT seems to be the winner in the 79-86 Fox Chassis department. I've owned an 85 GT and own an 86. The 86 is the better car. 8.8 rear-end, true duel exhaust, stronger block and efi. Sure the 86 has the E6 heads, speed density and flat top pistons, but that's all fixable. I guess those who go for carbureted go for the 85. Hey, good luck getting tires for those TRX rims!
