Re: Mid Grade Gas usage
I try not to look at the prices. It says premium so it gets premium. I pay 2.47 a gallon in CT

Premium is required by the manufacturer, my car has pinged on some brands of 92 octane... If gas prices are a concern, you'd better trade it in on a Civic!

Re: Mid Grade Gas usage
The car requires 91 octane. If money's really the issue, you can mix premium and regular to make a 91 blend and it'll save you some. If you do the math, the mid-grade is a rip-off in most cases. It costs more and has a lower octane rating than a 50/50 mix of regular and premium. If your going to drive the car very conservatively, it'll probably not hurt it to run regular.
Driving it very conservatively is not really possible, though, is it?

Re: Mid Grade Gas usage
Dude, I know gas prices are high, but this the Mach you're talking about. How much money are you actually going to save by putting in 91 instead of premium?? I paid 2.47 for premium the other day (Central IL) I think the midgrade was like 2.39. Say you put 11 gallons in, that's a grand total savings of .88. I don't get it. I don't like the high gas prices as much as the next person, but you bought a car knowing you would have to put premium in it. Deal with it.

Wow!!!! Did I step on some toes there!!!
Message received and understood!!!!! I should put premium in it and thank God I am lucky to have a Mach 1! By the way, XMachX, I am looking at putting Borlas on mine, How do you like them. I bet they sound sweet. How loud are they at cruising speed? |

Re: Mid Grade Gas usage
Heres what I do I fill up with 93 oct run about 1/2 a tank and refill the next with 89 oct. run 1/2 out refill with 93 oct. etc.. Saves a little $$ have no pinging issuses and Iam running an SCT flash tune. As far as warranty goes how are they going to prove you ran lower octane fuel unless they pull a sample and test it. (doubtful) Also if they did I would just say I bought it out of a 93 oct pump.Just my .02

Re: Mid Grade Gas usage
I've run mine on 89 octane gas /w 10%ethanol a few times (emergencies, was in boonies below E and thats the best I could find) and it didn't complain. Did feel a little weaker to the butt-O-meter but could have just been a calibration issue with the meter /shrug.

The Borlas are awesome. I shined them up the other day after being dirty for about a month. I almost forgot how sweet they look. By cruising speed, do you mean higway around 60-65 or around town 35-45? On the highway from 55 - 70 I think there is less cabin drone than factory, although I'm sure the Borla's are louder from outside the car. When you get above 70 and closer to 3K they really get loud. That's the sweet spot for the Borlas. Now around town 35-45 they are loud as well, especially in 3rd gear. But, it is by no means an annoying loud. I've had them for about 6 months and still love the sound.
