I think the new "rumored" MACH 1 prototype they are speaking of will actually end up being the new SHELBY mustang that is supposedly almost a sure thing already. I can't see them doing a mach1, a cobra AND a shelby. I personaly would rather see a shelby mustang because the mach1 has already been done. and call me selfish but I like the idea of keeping the mach1 limited to a two year run.

let me say it again..... carrol shelby has already agreed to work with ford on the new mustang platform.
and there won't be a new boss cause the name is still owned by shinoda, and they are not letting go of it, ford already tried to get it back.

Well, in that case, Ford can call it the Bosz.

I agree, I love my Mach. I will never sell it. If a new Mach comes out I will just have to have two.

I actually got a call from the salesman who sold me my Mach, he said that it is official that Ford would be introducing the new Cobra in the fall of 05 as an 06 model, I dont know if he is pulling my leg or not, but as far as a salesman go, he is the most honest dude I have ever bought a car from. I got the call this morning, 12-4-04, so who knows.

I know that this is true of all salesmen but every single one I know and talked to don't not s**t about what Ford is going to do. Like many other that ordered their cars May/June 2002, no one in sales dept. knew anything about it. I had even call them as soon as I heard that Ford announced that it will be built. The sevice dept. however knew as much as I did, and couldn't wait to be able to work on it.

Again I don't know who your salesman knows, but I just can't see him knowing before anyone else.

I think that the new cobra will be fu&*ing awesome. But I really don't want ford to make another mach1. These are supposted to be limited edition cars, and collectors items. To make a new mach1 this soon I think is obserd on fords part, and will pi$$ off fellow mach owners also.

Do you think they would make a Shelby with less power than a Cobra? Weren't the Shelby's always the crem de la crem of the Mustangs?

it has already been stated by coletti that the cobra will ALWAYS be the top mustang in the stable, regardless of what other special edition mustangs they have going on.

back in the day the shelby's were much like the saleen, and roush mustangs we see now. sure they are ford vehicles sold at ford dealerships, but they are completly worked over by these companys, therby voiding anykind of FORD FACTORY WARRENTY, I don't know for sure but I am pretty sure saleen and roush mustangs are still warrented though. anyway what I am getting at is back in the sixties the shelby mustangs were expensive and powerful, but they wern't part of the FORD LINEUP, even though they were sold through ford AS fords. does this make any sense.
sorry if I have done a poor job explaning it. maybe falcongtho3 will chime in here with his rich knoledge of ford history.

I would love to own a Shelby Mustang as I have two of Dodge's versions. I will be very disappointed if a Cobra is a bader car. If it has Carrol's name on it it should be the top of the line, not the middle of the road. Can't believe Shelby would go for that.

well it should be very exciting to see what ford does. either way.
and certainly not everyone will be pleased. everyone wants some thing different. I am bummed about the decision they made on the lightning. cause I was REALLY looking forward to an 06 that really shows that P.O.S. SRT 10 how it is done. for 10(or more) grand less.

LIGHTNING

Motor: 5.4 Supercharged, 3 valve heads (with HUGE valves), forged internals similar to the 4.6 (Crank, rods, etc), modestly rated (under rated actually) ~465 HP/495 lb ft Torque, using a twin screw S/C similar to that on the Ford GT but pullied differently, hence the lower HP. and a heavy duty 5 speed auto (the tranny used on the Ford Superduty but programmed/geared differently)

seriously I don't know why they couldn't just do this in the new lightning and maybe add a smaller pulley for more boost. numbers like 490/ 520 wouldn't seem too shabby to me. I guess the new f-150 is a little heavier though huh??

Having seen a new body Mustang at the Shelby plant, I can say for certain that there will be a new Shelby Mustang. Carroll would not let his name be on anythng less than a serious Mustang, so it will be one of the baddest ever made. The articles that have recently been published say the SVT car will shoot for a 5.4 supercharged engine puching in the 500hp range, gunning for the ZO6 Vette. The 6 litre Hurricane engine hasn't gotten much press lately, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it in a Shelby. Also, I've been told by a good source that Ford has the ability to use the Boss name if it so chooses.

Watching all the other car MFG come out with Hi-Po cars, I hope Ford just breaks loose and builds a Badd *** Mustang that not only competes with the Vette and Viper and others, but makes the other MFG go back and revamp to push Ford even more. Just my 2 cents

Ford's thinking has always been budget....

Therefore, It will be hard for ford to compete with corvette and viper. It will be more affordable, sporty/hip but not the most powerful. If history repeats itself.

Don't forget the Ford GT and the (hopefully) future Shelby GR-1 or roadster. Ford can play in the supercar arena when it puts its mind to it. Making the Mustang a world class supercar is not an easy task. You're asking a lot from a car that is first and foremost a 'bang for the buck' car that has to wear many hats; ffordable sporty car, muscle car, and grand touring car. Making it a Vette and Viper challenger is a stretch, not that it can't be done, it is just early in the game for the new platform. Give 'em a little time...the magic will come!

I agree 100%, I think they could do a little more with the GT, I just cant see that a Dodge Neon and WRX should be able to rundown and beat an American Legend, nor should Ford let that happen, those are pretty fast cars, but for christ sakes the Mustang is a Legend getting beat by 4cyl children, again just my opinion.

I'm not one to constantly trade up to the newer or faster model but if they make a new Mach with that power and the styling is there ( which it will be, let's face it ), then I'll never say never. I don't have the funds for owning two Stangs at the moment, either. It would have to give me the same feeling as when I first drove my 03, though. We drove one block and my wife and I looked at each other and started shaking out heads. We knew we'd be leaving the 01 Cobra on the lot and taking the Mach home.

Won't bother me a bit if they make a new Mach 1. Enjoy it while it lasts.

This Parnell Jones Cammer featured in the new Muscle Machines mag definitely has my blood boiling. 5.0L 420hp.
