Partial Vin?
Went to pay my dealer a visit today and finally got some news! Instead of TBD, I got a partial vin number.
FP42R_3 Sound right? Hell, I'm just happy I got some kind of information!

Sorry 69mach03, but all orders have a "partial VIN". Unless your dealer can provide you with the complete VIN you are probably not close to a build date. You are looking for your order to read "submitted to plant". That is the next step in getting your car!

Hey Vance,
Just to let you know, and not to knock your excitement, but I'd call your dealer again, because the partial VIN you got is consistent for every Mach 1. The last 6 digits are what counts for most of our purposes, as they're the part of the code unique to each vehicle. The F in your number is for Ford, P42 is the body code of the Mach 1, R is the identifier for a Mach 1, the blank space is a place holder and varies, and your 3 is just because production has not reached 400000 for the last six digits yet, although we're getting close. (Anyone correct me if I posted that incorrectly.) While this does identify a Mach 1, your dealer could be feeding you a line of BS as we all have this information since we know the beginning of the VIN for every Mach 1, with the exception of the placeholder digit. I just don't want to see your dealer make you think something that might not end up being true, or see you get screwed. Once you have the last six digits you're golden and close to having your car. I wouldn't be satisfied or comfortable until I had at least that. Good luck!

No that 3 means 2003 not because we aren't upto 400000 cars yet. Here are some more numbers that will be in your VIN, but the seven * are the important ones.

But....if the partial VIN was on the weekly update, a full VIN should be close behind.
Vance, I think it's good news. Ask your rep if it was on this weeks report. |

Congrats then Vance, glad you're happy.
You should hopefully see your full VIN very soon it sounds like! I'll drink to that!
