cutting out the stock exhaust
for those who have cut out the stock exhaust to install a new cat back, what did you use to cut the stainless tubing?

Though I haven't actually done it, I am pretty sure most people use a 'quikie saw' or sawzall (sp?)

340.29m/s thanks for the info!!....i was thinking because the tubing is stainless it would be hard to cut without a special saw and or blade.

Sawzall went right through...no problem. I cut about 2" behind the mufflers.

Why cut?
Its easy to save the original sections and remove them intact. Just drop the rear axle about 4 inches and you can pull them out over the axle.
To drop the axle you only need to undo the two lower shock absorber bolts and one bolt on the differential housing support. Support the axle with a floor jack on the diff housing first and then carefully lower it after removing the above bolts. Of course you need to support the rear of the car using jack stands at the correct frame locations to do the exhaust install anyway so lowering/raising the axle only takes about 10 extra minutes. It will probably take you that long to cut the pipes off so why not save them intact? Kid |

KidMach - thanks for the info. I will be ordering Borla stingers and was considering cutting off the pipes for removal but removing them would be as easy as cutting. Thanks againg.

Glad the info will help you Mustangdude.
I wanted to mention also that Ford says not to lift the rear of the car by the diff housing because it won't take the load. You can use your floor jack to lift each side first and position the jack stands, then use the floor jack to drop/raise the axle. Good luck with your install..... Kid |

You can raise the rear of the car by the diff. Put the jack under the "dog bone" on the front of the diff. Wont hurt anything. BUT if your doing exhaust you need to put your jack stands somewhere besides the axles.

exhaust removal?
I hear and see a lot about "catback" systems but... does anyone make a complete exhaust system from heads to tailpipe? I would be interested in a system that includes headers (stainless?) all the way back.
Is the OEM exhaust so good that it isn't necessary? |

complete systems
Yeah there are several companies offfering complete systems, but not as a single part number which includes everything. You must buy them in three sections......headers, X or H pipe, and cat back section.
Check out JBA and Bassani......Magnaflow will soon add headers to their cat back and X pipe offerings also. Kid |

Thanks for the tip
What kind of hp gain can be realized? Is it "cost effective". Holy Sh** I NEVER though I'd catch myself actually using that hatted phrase in an actual conversation!

Nice exhaust cut. How exactly does it work? Do you rotate it around the exhaust, which wouldn't work while it is still on the car, or do something else? It looks like a good solution to me.
