well, i'm selling my mach

my girlfriend is pregnant and I can't afford to keep it so I'm selling it. It's an '04 Torch Red with only 150 miles on it. Got it in November. This is a depressing day for me.

You only put 150 miles on it in 4-5 months? If this is true, I'm sorry to hear it, bud... but I'm a bit skeptical.

well, i've been waiting for nice weather - and it's just getting nice. Obviously it's not my everyday driver. It sits in the garage right now. Plus I work 60 hours a week. I don't care if you believe me or not.

I am going to get kicked off the boards for being an insensitive jerk but that is too bad.

I do payroll every two weeks and have done so since graduating from college in the mid 90's. I garnish wages for five guys for child support every payroll and there are three single mommies who all get either the earned income credit or are on the WIC program (Woman and Infant Care.) That is eight people out of 40 in this company. Another woman just left her husband and their first and only child was also an accident. All of these people were boyfriend and girlfriend when the pregnancies happened; not husband and wife. I hope you and your girlfriend can work it out and avoid all the pitfalls I have seen others fall into.

I can't believe so many people can't plan better. Bringing a kid into the world is the MOST responsible thing you can do.

I know I am an a-hole for acting this way but I have 10 years experience in dealing with these people who are about 5 to ten years ahead of you. As a CPA I get tax questions and the like and end hearing more than I care to know about their personal lives and how messed up they are.

I am honest when I wish you the best of luck.

Greg

?? Why would you say something like that ??

It just seemed odd that someone who loves the Mach would own it four months and put 150 miles on it. I didn't say "I don't believe you." And how am I "always making stupid comments..."?

I don't insult you... no reason for you to attack me...

Anyway speeder, hope you get a reasonable price for your "used" Mach. It has less than many of them do on the new dealer lots...

You're not an a-hole, just a bit passionate on this topic. But I think speederman has taken the approach you would suggest. Sure, he shoulda' used a condom if they weren't ready for kids, but who here hasn't played that version of roulet.

Speederman, lemme tell you a theory of mine:
Buying/owning a nice car is like having kids . . . there's NEVER a good time to buy/have one, but they'll bring you joy every day. Try to find a way to keep the mach, but do what you feel is right.

I was totally unprepared for the hold my kids have on my heart. I love them more than anything in the world.
But the mach is awfully close.

I'd love to keep the Mach, but it isn't reasonable. The mortgage comes first and I don't want to lose the house. As far as how much, I don't even know what I should be able to get for, since their prices vary so much from state to state.

I bought my Mach 12/31, we then had one of the worst winters on record - so it sit in the garage until about 2 weeks ago. I had my Mach for about 12 weeks and had only driven it 1.5 miles from the dealer to my garage. In the last week I have put about 100 miles on it. The good news is I am taking Friday off - getting up early in the morning and taking off. I have no destination in mind - I just want miles. I need to get this car broken in!

With 150 miles on it, he should get almost what he gave for it minus 500-1000 bucks. You are not going to find many people that will take that little for their 04. I know that I wouldn't get rid of my 03 for less than 21k. He could take it to auction and get 21-22k if not more for his.

Speederman, refinance your house.

Just a though, Speederman. Rates are still low (though they were on the rise in the last few days.) Why not refinance, pull-out some of the equity and pay-off the Mach 1 (and some other bills while you're at it?) Your mortgage would probably only go up by about two hundred dollars each month.

Just a thought...

Bob

The only problem is I've only owned the house for 2 years and don't have enough equity to take out more than it's worth. So I couldn't get enough to pay off the Mach. I guess I could raise the rent on my cousin that lives with me to like about $1k a month - that would work.

I just don't agree with that..... I just picked up my new 04 a month ago for $24500 AND others have gotten a better deal than me..

As soon as he drove it off the lot it dropped in value 150mi or not so why would someone but one used for $23+ when they can buy one from the dealer at the same price???

Like I said it's MO....

Too bad you an't wait a few months. With 04' Stang production ending in May, they may become short on dealer lots in late / summer or early fall. Might hep you fetch a little better price from someone who isn't thrilled about the new 05's in September.

Good luck either way.

GiddyUp!

Why not wait until your child is born and make sure you can not afford it first. Yes, children are expensive but from my experience...they get more expensive the older they get. If you really love your car..I'd try my d@mnest to keep it. Is the woman pushing you to sell?

No, she's not at all. I just think it would be best so money wouldn't be tight is all. The health of the baby is my top priority along with the fact that I want to give him/her whatever he/she needs.

Well, I feel for ya. Like I said...if it were me I'd wait and see what the money situation looks like first. Congrats though :HOPPY: .
