Superchip question

Hey all, is $525 a good price for a Superchip computer that changes the performance such as shifting, gears etc? Does anyone have one and if you do how do you like it?

http://superchip.com/html/products/ford/cars.htm Do you mean one of these? Most are paying closer to $300 or so.

I have one. it does what it is supposed to do. It makes chips obsolete. It loads in thru the diagnostic port.

Yes that is the one. Does $300 give you all the options that I mentioned? I know you can get them for cheaper but I want to be able to change performance and gas mileage and so on. Also the tech said that the 1725 is the only one available for our Machs. True or not?

I got a 1725 new off of E-bay for $270. I got tired of waiting for Diablo. So far, I'm pretty impressed with it. I mainly got it to compensate for 4.10 gears and firm up the shifts.

As far as I know, there is only one 1725 model. They all have all the programs in them. It recognizes your computer, and then prompts you with yes/no and choices thru a long menu. Might as well get it where it is cheapest.

One question. The tuner says it has 3 programs:
Quote:

HP4 Performance"

2003 Cobra

+70 more HP!
+127FT/LBS more torque!

Engine tuning optimized for the 2.81" or 2.93" dia. upper pulley modification along with user adjustable options:

Requires:
Aftermarket pulley by others:

Works with aftermarket air intake, H-Pipe and cat back exhaust

"Performance"

Engine tuning for more HP and Torque along with transmission tuning and user adjustable options:

Works with aftermarket air intakes and cat back exhaust

"87 octane"

Available for vehicles that were originally set to operate on 87 octane fuel. Tuning level provides minimal engine tuning, but provides transmission tuning and user adjustable options:

Works with aftermarket air intakes and cat back exhaust.
What advantages does this provide? Aren't our cars already 91/93 octane dependant?

Your car is designed to run on 91.

Since our cars need to run a minimum of 91 octane, there's only one tuning option available..."Superchips". I have no before and after dyno numbers to provide, but the car seems to pull harder above 3k. I suspect that the tuner is just leaning the A/F out a little through the powerband. You cannot manually adjust the timing or A/F ratio, you have to use Superchips pre-programmed tuned settings. You can change the shift points and firmness of each gear change (auto), as well as set the temp of the electric fan turn on, and also raise/remove the rev limiter. It can also be used to read DTC info from the cars computer (manual includes a huge list of trouble codes). It's a no-brainer to use, and takes about 10 minutes to complete (including the time to remove the fuel pump fuse). I'm happy with it.

Could you possibly use this to tune a Supercharged Mach?

2004 Mach 1

Superchip doesn't have anything for the '04 Mach for some reason. They explicitly state, not to use the 1725 on the '04 models.

Not sure why?

Yes it works in an 03 Mach or GT or Cobra. Ijust installed one in my 03 Mach yesterday. If the weather co-operates, I should have some comparisons next weekend....By the way, Superchips just had a 10% price increase. If you are planning to get a max-tuner, I would suggest you buy while there are still some out there at the old price. That price of $270? will not be seen based on new cost.

A prompt email response from them stated that the '04 unit will be along in "late spring or early summer". Sounds like fun.

'04

That is great new. I've been holding off on rear-gear changes until they come out with something.

I'm eager to hear the results of the Superchip on the '03. I would venture that the increase would show similiar numbers for the '04

I just ordered my 1725 Superchips Microtuner and I just wanted to know something:

I know I must return the vehicle's computer to stock before taking it to the dealer for service because if they reflash the computer, I will loose the program intalled. But what if I disconnect the battery for more than 20 minutes, would I loose the installed program too? I usually do that whenever I do any mod. Will I have to return the computer to stock every time I disconnect the battery?

Meathead, You're wrong about this one. I have the Superchips Custom Tuning Pro Racer Package and I can change everything. I think this guy is looking at one of the flashers from SCT with 3 pre-programmed tunes in it. There is a lot of confusion in the market about Superchips tuners vs. Superchips Custom Tuning which is some sort of subsidiary of Superchips itself. Go over to Modular Depot(www.modulardepot.com) or SCT itself (www.superchipscustom.com for more details on SCT.

If the correct configuration was loaded into the flasher you could probably de-tune to an 89 octane program. I don't know why you would want to though. If that's what you wanted you shoulda gotten a GT.

The Pro Racer Package comes with a PC program that can build an unlimited number of tunes for a single car and then download up to 3 of them into the flasher which is used to upload them into the car's computer via the OBD-II port. The gotcha is that since you can change so many parameters you kinda have to know what you're doing or you can really screw up your car. It lists for $799 and I suspect that this may be what someone is selling used in the original post. It has to come with the database for your particular computer code. Also the flash programs must match your computer code. It's also possible that some SCT dealer is having a sale and including his own tunes.
