Muffler advice

I have a 99 GT I bought with all stock exhaust except it has no mufflers. Someone welded in pipe with bends to match up to each end of what was the mufflers. I can't stand the sound. I really like the stock Mach1 exhaust sound. What aftermarket mufflers sound closest to stock Mach1? Or if anyone has some good condition stock Mach1 mufflers for sale that could be a option too.

Thanks, VA-Mach1.

Re: Muffler advice

I changed my exhaust after 9 years of owning the Mach. That was because I loved the tone of the factory mufflers, but wanted a little more volume. I went with the Delta Force II Flowmaster 50 series from American Muscle. It is a Cat Back system that sounds stock but a little more aggressive.

Re: Muffler advice

Magnaflow would probably get you close. Better yet you could ask around for someone's stock Mach 1 mufflers. There should be a few folks here that still have them.

Re: Muffler advice

Borla touring would be a clean, mild setup.

Re: Muffler advice

I don't see the 50 series or Borla on AM, and they have over a dozen different Magnaflow.

Oh, I got it now. I am more looking for just mufflers though. There is nothing wrong with the rest of the exhaust so I didn't want to replace it all.

Check Jegs or Summit. Maybe even Amazon. As long as you have the measurements you should be able to find what you want.

Re: Muffler advice

This would be the Magnaflow I'm referring to. Will be quieter than the Flowmaster, but I actually like the sound of the Flowmaster Force II better.

The Flowmaster's are more old school muscle, love it.

Re: Muffler advice

I had chambered magnaflows with a catted x pipe when I bought the mach 1 and it sounded great. I ended up selling them and going with kooks l/t's, magnapacks, and an o/r x pipe.......If I wanted my car quiet again but still wanted a great sound I'd go back to the chambered magnaflow set-up.

Re: Muffler advice

nothing beats the Flowmaster old school sound.
You can always tell a 4.6 with Flows on it.
Just has that sound.
the stock Mach mufflers are good and they have a little bark but not like the Flowmaster at any speed.
If you watch ebay sometimes there are Mach 1 mufflers on there..
I want to change mine over but I hate to cut exhaust off a car that only has 7000 miles on it.
My GT had that same flowmaster system on it.
Get it and you won't regret it.
Another tip save your self the headache and get the cat back kit..
They fit better and are much easier to install.
Also to save your cats if the car has miles on it.....don't sawzall the pipes off get a tubing cutter for exhaust..
It wraps around the pipe and cuts it with no vibration.
