Lowering 03 mach Long Tubes
Hey yalls
What is the lowest you can drop your car with long tube headers? I don't want to be scraping or taking out my exhaust on something.Would 1.5 inch drop be okay? Thanks |

its an extremely difficult question because
1) every brand hangs differently, some are lower than others. I feel like my Kooks are on the low hanging side, theres definitely room for them to tuck up closer to the floor boards. Not to mention theres some wiggle room on the install to angle them up a little bit 2) we dont know what road conditions are like where you live or how many bad speed bumps/steep inclines etc... 3) stiffness of the springs and shocks matter as well, coming off a bump how much is the suspension going to compress. that being said the roads here are good, drives arent steep and speed bumps are usually reasonable. With the Steeda springs and Kooks LTs I have to be pretty darn easy over speed bumps with a passenger in the car. They hang a bit lower than my full length sub frame connectors.

When I was running Eibach pro springs my longtubes caught a sewer man hole one time and it cracked the primaries. After having to pull the k member again to weld the crack, I went back to stock springs. I did cut about half a coil off the front springs though. Doesn't scrap anymore

My kooks were significantly lower than my american racing headers. The kooks car had frpp c springs and they scraped a lot. The mach with the american racing headers was on coilovers and cut rear springs. It was much lower and scraped much less than the kooks so it is much more brand dependant on the headers than the drop amount.

They're great headers and one of the best you can buy since you can still pull the trans with them on but the drawback is they hang lower. Mine never gave me any problems and they were on for 4 years before I sold it. The very bottom of the collectors had some road rash but they were still holding up fine.

pulling the trans is easy since I have a T56 and you can take it off the bellhousing. I dont like how they clear the starter or the fact that I couldnt get my stock steering shaft through them in one piece.
the ARH may have their own issues, havent seen a set installed in person

The steering shaft doesn't route through the primary tubes on the ARH.

After reading about this kind of stuff, I'm so glad I went with Mac LT's, even if they are just the 1 5/8. No fitment issues with stock parts or clearance issues etc.
OP, I'm on FRPP C springs with Mac LT's and the only thing I've scraped so far is my exhaust clamp on my H pipe, which I need to rotate around the pipe anyway. I want to go lower though.
