Koni STR.T shocks and struts

Has anybody tried these Koni STR.T shocks and struts?

I have Eibach Sportlines. I want to replace mine sooner rather than later. If I wait until I can buy some Bilsteins, I might be waiting for a long while. Plus, I'm not sure I need "the best", since I don't road track or autoX mine. I do go to the drag strip a few times in the spring, summer, and fall though.

Hey I just got the Tokico HP thru Latemodel Restoration. Just about $90 more than the SRT.

Do you like them? I'm trying really hard not to buy cheaper ones because I don't want to regret it LOL.

There is another set of Koni's I'm interested in as well. They are adjustable and cost about $170 more total.

They are on sale now as a matter of fact... KONI Adjustable Shock & Strut Kit. These would be cool since you'll have some adjustability.

Re: Koni STR.T shocks and struts

I ordered the Koni SRT.T setup from American Muscle today. Like you, I have lowering springs (to install) and my ride is just a cruiser, won't be racing or anything like that. Koni's have a good rep and I'm sure you won't be disappointed if you get them.

I saw that they were about $100 cheaper than the same sold as a set at Steeda. I assume they come with some hardware, like the Steeda kit..? You're probably right, they would work just fine. I'm hoping someone has tried the Koni adjustable set I posted recently so at least I have more info before I pull the trigger.

Re: Koni STR.T shocks and struts

Honestly, if you intend for your Mach to be a cruiser with some spirited driving and attacking the freeway on/off ramps, the standard Koni's will be fine. I've seen people post and talked to people that have the adjustable ones and keep them on the middle setting, never adjusting them.

Re: Koni STR.T shocks and struts

We have the STR.T's on our 06 with Eibach springs. Not really an apples to apples comparison. But when we bought the car it had stock shocks and struts. It rode horribly. I hated riding in it. We picked up the Konis and it made a world of difference.

That's a good point really. I could see myself doing something similar and just keeping it at the setting I like best 100% of the time.

I see they have a lifetime warranty too. I haven't gotten to ride mine much at all since getting the springs because of all this winter we are having lol. I have a feeling I'm gonna hate the ride too.

Re: Koni STR.T shocks and struts

I got a set (I was supposed to get D specs, but Tokico never responded to Steeda) and haven't gotten a chance to install them yet. But just by picking them up they felt great, very solid and well built. I'm excited to replace my worn shocks and struts. From all the reviews I've read they're really good to.

Now that's a scientific analysis!

Re: Koni STR.T shocks and struts

I'm running Koni Sport Single Adjustable on my 95 Camaro and am very pleased. I use mine for autocross and DD.

I have heard a lot of good things about the Koni Street's as well though.

Do you feel like the adjustablility is useful? I am debating about the adjustable ones but wondering if I'll end up doing it one time only. I would like to say I'd adjust the back for when I go to the strip, but not if its a PITA.

IMO it's like anything else, adjustability is great to fine tune the suspension as a whole system. The downside is the ability can make you keep adjusting things and chasing your tail...

Is it possible to adjust them until you are happy and never touch them again? Sure. Would you be just as happy with a properly selected shock to the springs and suspension you are running and be happy you spent less money? Sure lol.

I'm "head over heels" for autocross, so everything I do is structured around that. Adjustable shocks, adjustable watts link and adjustable rear sway bar.

Look at how you will use the car. If this is a weekend cruiser and sees decent amount of street duty then the Koni Streets and lowering springs could make you very happy with the car.

I like having adjustability because I like to tinker and see what suits my driving style at autocross. For me right now it is a lot of trial and error. Once I get a TrueTrac put in I bet I will need to tweak something to re-balance the car since I hear a differential will tend to make the car understeer (or was it oversteer? lol)

Yes it was!

For being cheap shocks and struts though it made me feel better that they just felt well built. I was really disappointed with not being able to get the D specs, I was looking forward to having them. Not that I ever needed the adjustability, I just heard so many great things about them and they were at a good price. I think I might have just left them on one setting and never touch them again.

How are the STR.T's for an occasional autocross just out of curiosity?

Re: Koni STR.T shocks and struts

I think I'll give the Koni STR.T's a try. Being around $300 for a set, I think it would be worth it to give them a try and see if they'll work for my driving and drag strip plans. If I decide I need more performance, I'll have a good baseline to guide me to a higher performance set.

Is there anything additional hardware or bushings, etc that I should get for the struts up front?

Re: Koni STR.T shocks and struts

I pulled the trigger and ordered the Koni STR.T's along with H&R super sports. eager to see what the car will feel like. It's a daily driver so i hope its still comfortable at least as good as stock was. Will post some pics and update of how it feels afterwards.

I don't know how they will do with some of the low low springs somer of ya'll have mentioned, but they ride better than stock combined with my Steeda Sports!

I have the adjustable ones and the H&R Super Sport springs, I am very happy with them. The Konis are set at the mid point and the ride comfort is comparable to the stock setup. Cornering is greatly improved.

If the STRT's I bought don't give me enough performance, I think I'll go with the adjustable Koni's.
