License plate decal

So after getting pulled over for no front plate and $100 dollar fine thought it was time fix the problem. No way was I going to drill the bumper and Ive bought a flip down plate before but it doesnt work on our cars. So decided to try and have a removable license plate decal/sticker made and Im pretty happy with the outcome so thought I would share. How do you guys like it, I thinks its pretty cool!

Re: License plate decal

Had it made at a online sticker company. I bought 2 and with shipping it cost me $28 bucks. It looks real so I figure unless I get pulled over for another reason they wont ever give me a second look.

It is a direct copy of my actual plate. I scanned it at work and emailed to the company that made it for me.

Interesting idea!

Info on the company that made it for you?

I'm sure its just a matter of time until I get pulled over for the same thing!

Re: License plate decal

Without a doubt, one of the biggest money making con jobs some states have ever come up with. I'll never run one, no matter where I live.

I applaud you for the idea. I've seen these before, some of the VW guys even get the cheesy Euro plate stickers for the rear. They do look real, but I can only assume they aren't legal replacements. Best of luck to ya.

I made it 3 yrs before they finally got me but yea its just another tool the state and police dept uses for revenue. They tried to do away with it here in 2013 but the police threw such a fit it never went anywhere. If I get pulled over and they happen to inspect it then I suspect I will get another ticket because its not the plate that was legally assigned to me. However they might give me a pass for my creativity... hopeful thinking!!

The website is www.stickergenius.com and I went with their product they refer to as "custom rounded rectangle StickleMe". They are safe on paint, leave no residue and completely re-usable even if you fold it in half and stick it to itself. Apparantly they are waterproof as well but I have yet to find out. I dont know how safe it would be in the summer with the sun baking the car but mine stays in the garage mostly so guess Im not too worried.

Yeah, I purchased one of those - haven't tossed it on yet. How's it all fit?

I'll just run without until that 1st pullover - then dig it out & put it on.

Re: License plate decal

You have to have the month and year stickers on your front plate? In Wisconsin, you only get 1 sticker to put on the back plate. That might be a giveaway to a cop if he saw the month and date on the front plate. Great idea though and it does look real.

I ordered one of these and it should arrive tomorrow. My scan wasn't very good so I only ordered one at $13.50. Well worth it if it works!!

Craig's bracket works like a champ once it's installed. Taking it on and off is a bit of a pain, but not as painful as a $100 traffic citation for no front plate.

Re: License plate decal

The cops like the front tag for the photo radar and red-light camera's. It shows the driver's face (usually) and the tag in the same photo.

Re: License plate decal

Run legal. Two holes in the bumper for a license plate is normal and trivial to worry about. If it that big a deal there is a bracket.

I just picked up the bracket from Craigs because I got lucky and didn't get a ticket when I got pulled over. Took about 10 minutes to install including attaching the plate to the bracket.

It works trust me, I think you will be happy with it! I know alot of people are saying just drill the bumper or install a bracket but honestly I mostly just go on cruises or to car shows so this worked out perfect. I can remove it when I want that clean look at shows and put it back on for my drive home.

True it is trivial, but its personal preference. I happen to like a clean look of no plate on the front.
