70' Mach

Finally getting the 70' to my buddies shop to figure out the Oil Burning issue. Doing a Compression check this week....... if that looks good ,checking the top end to see if it sucked an Intake Gasket. Hoping for something simple..

You sir have a beautiful car! Hope for your sake that it's something simple too. I don't think that anyone would mind if you put more pictures up...just saying.

Crappola..., #2piston has a chunk missing , top looks like the surface of the moon from detination and scored the cylinder wall. Going to bore scope the rest tomorrow. So much for an easy fix. Gotta yank the engine now.

If you need any help with certain parts of the build/tuning, I know a really good engine machinist and a super dyno/engine tuning shop.

Re: 70' Mach

At least the technology in the old cars is pretty straight forward and understandable, hopefully parts and machining are relatively affordable still. I know they are down here, keep us posted on progress.

That's okay, Chris. Over the years you've got a million dollars worth of enjoyment out of that car too. Do you know how many miles are on it because it's most definitely a driver as well as a drag car and show car.

Re: 70' Mach

yep, good luck with the build.

does that include "hardened" valves for unleaded gas?

back when i was driving mine regularly i burned a couple of valves and ended up having to get new heads.

Yep,did that mod years ago when the lead went away in the gas! Going with lower compression this time around from 10-1/2 to 9-1/2 for the crappy gas that's available.

Re: 70' Mach

Glad to hear your fixing it. I know during Carlisle you said it was iffy.

If it makes you feel any better my checking account just took a nice hit today. Someone was a little off on their guestimate but I can go around corners a lot faster now.

Damage List so far : Intake Gaskets were sucked in, #2 Exhaust Roller Lifter came apart & sent debris through the engine, Scored a couple of Cylinder walls, Piston Skirts, Roller Cam Lobes, Bearings. Heads look ok, Crank should polish out & stay .020 / .020 I hope ....

Re: 70' Mach

Does that mean the piston damage was just debris or do you still have a detonation issue?

It was detonating for a while, Piston damage seems to be scuffs on the skirts from the crap scoring up the Cylinder walls..

Beautiful Mach. Sorry to see the issue but glad you're doing it up again. The car deserves it.
