Nitrous is a GO !

Picked up some go Fast goodies last night. Traded a guy a shotgun i dont use anymore for his Zex Kit. Its a basic wet kit with a purge, bottle warmer and pressure gauge. I am new to nitrous but i know my first step before anything is to go pick up a colder spark plug. I decided on the NGK TR 6 unless someone can recommend me a better option.
I'm sure im going to have alot of questions as i install this kit

Re: Nitrous is a GO !

Not sure about tuning. The car has a diable sport. Car was tuned by previous owner. I dont know anything about it. I know i should pull some timing. 2 degrees for 100 shot? Also have no clue what this is and i i need it ? Kid said it was a fuel splitter ?

Im also wondering what size the fitting ill use on the fuel rail is and if that will provide enough fuel for a 75 - 100 shot.

You can pull the fuel from the rail, remove the shrader valve and screw in the NTP to AN fitting , if I remember correctly it was a -4AN connection. It will be enough fuel for your needs. If you do it this way then you do not need that fuel 'T'.

My nitrous tune increased the fuel pressure to 60psi to counteract the initial drop in fuel pressure when the fuel starts to flow (returnless style fuel setup).

Good luck, I hated my ZEX box and quickly put in a normal setup, power was 'wavy' , swapped in for different solenoids and problem went away.

Highly suggest a Dyno tune.

Re: Nitrous is a GO !

nice trade
with zex kit you don't need to tune anything if you are doing a 100 shot, might be a 125 shot, its been a few years since I ran zex on my mach I had. but no tune needed on shot unless you go higher
shrader valve is enough on fuel too also

congrates and get ready the first time you spray it

Everyone has their opinions on this, but I completely disagree. Since the OP purchased their Mach used, do they know if the car was ever tuned or is it a factory tune?

If the OP decides not to do a dyno tune, take it to a shop and pay for a dyno run, not a tune. At the minimum they can log the fuel pressure and air/fuel ratio during your pull and of course give you a piece of paper with bragging rights.

The tuning on a dyno, even in this very simple application ensures that your setup does not lean the motor out at any point in the RPM range as well as logs a number of other data items that a competent tuner will evaluate and ensure you have a safe setup. Without tuning on the dyno I may have never known how dangerously low my fuel pressure dipped on initial hit.

Ash, I only add this other issue below since this was using the Zex kit I purchased from you, so our experience with Zex is using the exact same unit. You did not sell me a faulty unit which is why I never brought it up to you, it was just a bad choice on my part. I feel so strongly about this that I refuse to sell the zex box that I took out to anyone. Made sure and took it apart. Glad I did, the guts of that box is simply laughable. Later I can post a comparison picture of the size of the solenoids.

With this same Zex kit, during tuning we experience a nice increase in horse power initially, it peak quickly and then continued to fall off as the RPMs went up, this happened until 6k rpm and we shut it down after a few attempts to resolve it. The tune was made safe and we called it a day. I took the car home and did some test runs and while the car was much quicker and more fun to drive I was still irritated about what the dyno showed.

So, I then swapped out to Nitrous Outlet solenoids and WOT switch, retune and the difference was unbelievable. Used the exact same nozzle size but it felt like I put a 150 shot on there. It pulled strong through the entire RPM range that I had set for my window switch.

For some, the Zex kit does a good job and possibly I would have been ok with it but making the above change clearly improved it significantly. However, the OP will still have some good times with this kit, but I still caution not getting a tune. Blow up a motor, now the cost of the tune does not seem all that much.

Re: Nitrous is a GO !

Just trying to help you out, here is the wiring diagram I created when I used my Zex kit. I disconnected my rear defrost when I had the windows tinted (and I live in Texas) and I do not run fog lights, so I repurposed those button locations and keeps the Nitrous hidden inside the car.

Note that the use of some of those relays is because of the switches I used, they cannot source the current through that switch type. However, you can choose different switches and not worry about relays. You may also want to consider a window switch.

Re: Nitrous is a GO !

DO NOT RUN THIS WITHOUT A DYNO TUNE !!!

my car has 40,000 miles got my n2o installed went on dyno my pump was at 80% on motor tried a 100 shot shortly it instantly hit 12psi when it should maintain 40. No doubt ny motor wouldnt have survived. Is that worth it to you ? $500 now or possible thousands on an engine.

Re: Nitrous is a GO !

I was going to put a wide band A/f ratio gauge, Fuel pressure gauge and nitrous pressure gauge in the car before i even attempted to spay. The car has a tune in it now. A tune i know nothing about. I'm in the market now for a new Dyno tune in the fort Bragg area. I also started looking at the lethal performance return style 850 + hp kit.

What window switch did you run? I want one but have never messed with one before.

Re: Nitrous is a GO !

Im going to be taking this install very slow as im still not sure exactly which route i want to go. Is there a Window switch/ WOT switch combo ? I am thinking about ditching the zex box after what ive been reading about it. What solenoids should i go with?

Re: Nitrous is a GO !

Most used shotguns are only good for a couple hundred bucks. Since youre considering a lot of new parts ever consider selling this kit and putting the cash towards an entirely brand new system ?

Re: Nitrous is a GO !

I paid 250 bucks for the shotgun 4 years ago. I believe what i bought is worth more than that.

Thanks for the pics! Gives me some good ideas. Do you have any close up's of your fuel rail where you pulled fuel from? Part numbers for the adapters or fittings i need?

Also i was thinking about painting the bottle. The purple is kind of crappy and the stickers have already been taken off. Is it a ***** to take the bottle apart? Would i be better off just taping off the valve?

Bottle brackets i bought yesterday will be painted with Black Wrinkle paint and the bottle with be Azure blue !

Nice pics thanks! Thanks for confirming that fitting size. I'm want to go to the track this afternoon but if for some reason its closed i will begin the mock up and maybe bolt a few things down. I did end up painting the bottle. I will post pics up shortly.

Re: Nitrous is a GO !

Noticed something during mock up today. The fuel line leading into the zex box is -6 an im guessing? The nipple coming off my fuel rail will be -4an. What size should the fuel line be? Is their a different between nitrous steel braided lines and fuel ones ? Are they interchangeable ?

This is prob the best spot for the box. I'm just wondering about nozzle placement. I have K&N CAI.
