Cobra vs Marauder Eaton Install

What are the pros and cons of going with each install? Will the Marauder brackets transfer over to any other 4.6 block? What about crank and blower pulley size selection? Reason for asking is that I want to do a eaton swap on my Mach now, but I plan on at a later date do a cobra engine swap or maybe a built Ford Racing BOSS 5.0 block with the 4.6 deck height.

Re: Cobra vs Marauder Eaton Install

I have a Marauder swap so I will try to answer your question
Pros:
*You dont have to mess with the timing cover, pully bridge, or cobra alt.
*You can get lower pully's, Metco Motorsports makes them on their Marauder page
*It saves ALOT of space in the engine bay

Cons:
*It doesn't look exactly like a Terminator engine when you pop the hood (our alt spins in reverse)

The power is exactly the same, everything else is also the same

Did Terry make the auxiliary idler like is on Zack's marauder? The more I look at this setup the more I like it.

No, thats a Thump RRR idler arm, it's not needed if your installing an Eaton. Zack has a Whipple running 20 something psi of boost:
http://www.thumpracing.com/accessories.htm

Get a Roush 3 bolt tensioner:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ROUSH-Ford-M...96aba7&vxp=mtr

Here is a thread from Zack on the parts list:
You will not need the coolant return tube (runs to the back of the water pump), you wont need the COT modified

http://www.thechicagogarage.com/foru...-01-cobra.html

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forum...ad.php?t=60366

Do a search on this site, there was a Mach1 swap done a few years ago

Re: Cobra vs Marauder Eaton Install

My Roush tensioner bent.
I replaced it with a billet version from UPR.

On my Cobra it bent. Had a tight belt on there and 22psi.

They 'used' to be lifetime warranty, until so many were bending.

LOL

Re: Cobra vs Marauder Eaton Install

With so many people still doing the cobra swap, it makes me wonder if there are any negatives to the marauder install.

Can anyone give a total cost difference between the cobra and the marauder installs?

The only negative is less time to install and way easier. So there are no negatives.

It varies based on the deals you can find.
Even at the max amount, it wont be over 3k.

Re: Cobra vs Marauder Eaton Install

Mine was a little over 4k but that is including aero force gauge with air fuel adaptor and using the metco lower and a billet flow upper with quick change hub pulley and instead of seaching too hard I just bought a couple new parts like crank pulley and other odds and ends and I did use the marauder brackets so now I have all the front dress stuff to sell and recoupe some money.

Re: Cobra vs Marauder Eaton Install

Are these brackets needed for this still in production? Do they work with on an 01 front cover?

Thanks!

Re: Cobra vs Marauder Eaton Install

We have a new guy making the brackets for us. Terry has stopped production so a fellow Marauder owner/Machinist stepped up to create a better version of these for us.

The newer brackets are better quality and unlike the previous version (drilled and tapped aluminum) these have helicoil threads recessed to keep the hardware good and tight.

Re: Cobra vs Marauder Eaton Install

How can we contact the new builder of the brackets? I like just a few parts for my eaton swap, but I still like the idea of a top mounted alt. My son has a 04 Cobra that has needed several. Seems to be the heat.

Re: Cobra vs Marauder Eaton Install

Is the alternate source still making brackets? Terry said in an email a few days ago that he'll still do it.

Yes. Before buying my used Vortech kit I was in contact with both sources.
