which new mods to get??
okay i did my taxes so that means some new mods for the mach because i havn't done anything to it and feel like doing something. okay iam def getting a SCT tuner from AM the bama tuning. but i cant decide to go with a magnaflow catted x-pipe or get an aluminum driveshaft with hotchkis lower control arms.
i have an 03 AB mach1 automatic. only mods that i have done to the car is magnapacks, newgen JLT RAI intake, accufab TB, Lowerd on SR performance springs, 275/40 nittos NT555 out rear to grip better than the stock 245. so its either #1 SCT tuner and Magnaflow catted x-pipe. cost for those both are $1,089 #2 SCT tuner and aluminum Driveshaft with Lower control arms just under $1,000 iam leaning more on #2. just want to get some opinions from people on here. and yes i know gears are a must but iam holding off on that right now. i plan on doing 4.10s later on just not right now. |

Re: which new mods to get??
I think you could have fun with both. #1 would give you a new sound and a small benefit in hp. I love the way my car sounds and its probably my favorite part of it.
#2 would give you less rotational mass which would help with engine braking and maybe a little with acceleration as far as the lower control arms I've heard mixed thing about control arms on this site but have not paid much attention so I won't give an opinion on that.

Re: which new mods to get??
Catted x and driveshaft. Scrap the flasher idea until you're ready for a dyno tune.
My aluminum driveshaft was comparable to going from a stock catted h to an offroad x in a seat of the pants gain. Very much worth it.

Re: which new mods to get??
just hold off for some used parts. If you are patient for some good deals, you could get all of the options you listed for your price range.

Re: which new mods to get??
Catted X, Alum. D/S, no tuner. I know you said that you are holding off on gears, but they are deffinately the biggest bang for your buck.

Re: which new mods to get??
The tune was setup for 91 octane. Not to mention, you can run higher octane in a tune designed for lower octane, just not the other way around. I think the bama tunes are very aggressive. I have heard many people complain about there tunes on a 4v.

Re: which new mods to get??
I didn't know an aluminum drive shaft was that big of a deal, guess I have something new to get. I loves me some more power.
PS. Just looked on ebay, can't find anything for the Mach 1. Are we 31 spline or something different? Thanks! Triple

Re: which new mods to get??
Less rotational mass, less shock to drivetrain, revs a tad quicker, 28 spline, have to re-use stock yoke

Re: which new mods to get??
Now I'm confused, after some checking it states Mach 1's are 31 spline, but it also says it's different on automatics which I have, so maybe my auto is a 28 spline, which would make sense.
Can someone confirm if the autos are 28 and the manuals are 31 spline? Thanks! Triple

I highly recommend a custom tune. I bought a used SCT tuner for 200 and had Eric brooks at brooks speed make a custom mail order tune and it dropped .3 at the track(i have an auto car also)
Gears will get you about .2-.3 at the track as well. Another really good one is a torque converter. For an auto car you can't beat a converter, tune, and gears. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2

Re: which new mods to get??
Why would Ford put the weaker 28 spline parts in a Mach 1 and 31 spline parts in regular Mustang during that time (99-04 GT 31 spline)? That makes no sense.
Sorry for the jack Triple

Re: which new mods to get??
So I should get the aluminum driveshaft forsure. And yes I know for the autos the yoke on the stock driveshaft has to be swaped to the aluminum driveshaft. And get the catted x pipe.? So those 2 things x_pipe and aluminum driveshaft.

Re: which new mods to get??
These cars respond well to exhaust mods.........but its like everything else in these forums, you will hear different opinions/attitudes from different people.
