If he means that, isn't that a team stripe? They were used to distinguish team cars for the pit crew. Different teams used different color combinations of stripes. I think they were first used on Cobras.

Yeah those stupid stripes....Ive seen 2 Machs in the last 2 weeks with those . The worst part is the 1st time I saw one was at the Rockingham Dragstrip . There was a foxbody coupe with a Chevy motor in it that blew up in the 1st round.

I was undr the impression they were "rookie" stripes to warn other drivers to be careful around them on the track! lol....I don't know but I don't think they have anything to do with one brand!

GM put them on a couple "limited" or "special" edition vettes that were just graphic packages mostly and had those stripes now they seem to be getting pretty popular

23: Even worse they are ment to be installed on the drivers side only .

I BELIEVE, the origin is in the early 60's corvette race cars called grand sports. I think all were blue, dunno if all stripes were red but I think. Also the 96 grand sport was an actual limited blue model with the red hash marks too. Now that grand sport is just a widebody, regular vette model, I'm sure its on tons of newer ones. Did notice the challenger can come factory with them, but don't think any old mopars had em strangely enough. Could be wrong.

actualy it stems back to the 1963 cobra

"The fender stripes are known as FIA stripes. They were first used on a Cobra (CSX2128) at the 1963 Sebring FIA race. The stripes were painted on 2128 to distinguish it form the other team Cobras (all black painted body's) that were racing. The color chosen for 2128 was yellow. To answer your question; yes it started with the race cars.

so no they are not chevy stripes
