Got a new Focus ST in at work (pics) - 2003-04 Mach 1 Registry Owners Club

Well i am a fan of these cars and so i was pretty excited when i heard one came in today. I am hoping to order a silver one in the spring but the blue is very tempting. This is the very first ST i've heard of hitting any dealership anywhere, i even checked the Focus ST facebook page and the ST Nation site as well.

Because it is 4 doors, it's the only reason I was considering it. It is intended to compete with the Subaru WRX, Mazda Speed 3, VW GTI, Civic Si. The WRX and Speed3 are only 4 door, the Si is 2 or 4 door, the GTI is 2 door only. So, it fits in the category that it's intended to.

You just have to keep in mind what market it is targeted at - the fast hatch group. Sure a 2 door version would also fit the market but this is Ford's first time bringing the european based design to the US market - I imagine they are just testing the waters with the more useful 4 door version. If it does well - maybe a 2 door version will surface.

Either way, the fast hatch is supposed to be a fun and practical car that a driver can enjoy and use everyday without issue, IMO. So, this is just that. It's not the best looking car - but it looks similar to all the other cars in its category to me.

Its just exciting to see a sporty turbo 4 cylinder in the American market by Ford. Its never happened before. Its not supposed to be a race car. And it would be expensive to take the current Focus platform and change it to accommodate a 2 door model that would receive a tiny percentage of sales in comparison to the regular Focus. They tested out the 2 door model with the previous Focus generation, and it didn't receive enough demand in comparison to the 4 door, so they scraped it. I was against the 4 door too at first, but now I think its a plus.

The hatchback has been a Focus favorite for a while. I think the hatchback (wagon) was a good decision.

And, hatchbacks are more structurally rigid and sound than sedan/coups. It's the main reason Subaru started offering the STi in hatchback form - so they could use it for WRC.

If it does well, hopefully they will bring over an RS 4wd version! It's about time someone stirred the pot in the evo / sti segment. If I had to have one car that did everything, that is probably where I would look. Having an offering from Ford in that segment would be excellent.

They had some up at Woodward dream Cruise this past weekend, a nice Yellow/orange color and a few other neat colors.
