Isolator question

I hear about people removing the iso's to make the car lower. I was thinking about doing this but do you put anything between the spring and the control arm? Just seems to me that the metal rubbing would squeak. Someone told me to put a bicycle tire tube in between in but that just seems like it would be too weak. What does everyone else use when they remove the iso's? Also, do you remove both or just the top or bottom?

i just remove some isolators on another mach, just the front, drop it alittle (also just removed 1 on each spring) said it made it alot more ruff ride, also from what i member on my 2001 it had the sqeak sound too it.

what springs do you have? to me if your going to stick something in there just leave the isolator in there,

Re: Isolator question

I have no iso's on the front and just the bottom iso's in the rear...i wrapped the last coil with electrical tape. I have no squeeks, and the ride is the same as before I removed them.

No ISO's in mine either. I'm running H&R race springs and no noise from the springs. I like the way mine looks but next is coilovers. Here is a pic.

Re: Isolator question

Right now I have 1 coil cut on all 4 stock springs. I have lower control arms in the back so the rear sits exactly 1" higher than the front. I like the stance of it right now, I just want it a little lower.

Re: Isolator question

I've heard of people coating the spring contact areas with a little spray silicone.

Re: Isolator question

Will taking the iso's out affect anything with the cut springs? I was told running cut stock springs is bad only because the top of the spring is not rounded anymore and is not like a point. I was told that if you hit a bump, your spring could actually shoot out of position because it's not flat anymore. Is this something I should worry about?

+1 this is what im fixing to do soon. Removing all upper iso's and coating the springs with the spray silicone. I believe its only like $8-10 a can from autozone.

Re: Isolator question

I was just told that since I have cut stock springs, that it might not be a good idea. Just need to know if I will be alright, like I said before, I have heard horror stories.

Re: Isolator question

spraying or taping isnt needed, but is an option just for security for any squeaking that may occur. Some will squeak, some wont.

Re: Isolator question

Dumb question but why not just cut more off the springs and let the isolators in there?

Spring doesn't do its job once you cut off more than can bounce. Get too much gone and its like putting a metal block in there...

that just sounds crazy something lke that happing, chite who knows prob could or has happen, i think i just leave em in . or take one isolator from each springs,
its the game where you can 't have it perfect. so to lowerit alittle more, give up alittle comfort. just sucs, for me i feel bless now after i made my trade
