Mustang Clubs... Are you or not?

Being as most of us own "Mustangs" on this forum (i.e. Mach 1's actually) it would be interesting to know how many members are actually true Mustangs fans and how many are members of the Mustang Club of America (MCA) or a local Mustang Clubs. I've been a member off and on of the MCA since about 1980 and probably continuously the 15 years or so. I'm also a member of two local Mustang Clubs plus a Muscle Car Cub for all American iron.

Re: Mustang Clubs... Are you or not?

I only just recently joined this club http://www.ncmco.org/.

I've been going to their yearly Mustang show from the last 2-3 years so i decided what the heck, why not join up.

Re: Mustang Clubs... Are you or not?

I'm thinking that there should have been another option of belonging to the MCA but not to a local Mustang club. I've been a long time member of the Mustang Club of America, but tend to be a sometime member of the local Mustang club, mainly because they can't seem to get their sh!t together and do things right!

No, I haven't belonged to any clubs, the local clubs are run by people I don't enjoy being around. Without being in a club I like the choice of doing things with the car without feeling obligated.

Re: Mustang Clubs... Are you or not?

Have been an MCA member for a number of years, on and off. Started with my local club in '81, and then was president of the club about 90/91 and then left. Got back into it when I got the Mach 1 and have been a member ever since. We've got a monthly meeting, monthly activity and a good group of members to hang out with.

I'd really like to get into a club. I wanted to join the North Texas Mustang club but now who knows where I'll end up! Hopefully once I get to my permanent duty station I'll find a good one.

Re: Mustang Clubs... Are you or not?

I was a member of the MCA several years ago, but never renewed my membership. I joined up with The Mustang Club of Tidewater (MCT) around the same time, but myself and some other members had issues with the way they did things so I ended up leaving the club. I currently go to the monthly meetings of the Southeastern Virginia Mustang Club (SEVMC) and sometimes help with their shows but have no intention of actually joining the club as they don't really meet my expectations.

Re: Mustang Clubs... Are you or not?

If it wasnt for the politics I would join a local club. Previously was part of the MCA and decided what a waste of 50 bucks for a sticker and just to say Im a member. Now im just in a group of friends that own mustangs and we go to shows, hang out and have a great time, none of us care about winning trophys we are just there to show our cars off and hopefully make new friends

Re: Mustang Clubs... Are you or not?

I said nope...Used to be involved in local club but its across town and I always seem to be busy that night of the month. The car scene (for domestics anyway it seems) has really died off around here, seems to be either much older folks sitting around talking about their latest chrome stick on mod, the street racer crowd or the obnoxious import guys (although strangely enough they all had a very healthy respect for my Lightning and never dared run their mouth like they would when I was in the mustang).

That is exactly where I am at, most of the shows we go to are club sponsered. It is just amazing how most of the winners are club members!

Re: Mustang Clubs... Are you or not?

Anybody got anything good to say about their local clubs? I understand some of the things said above especially about the politics and favoritism at times. My local club had a split some years back and since I had friends in both clubs and wasn't involved in the politics, I payed my dues and was and still am a member of both clubs (LOL). Since then a few other people have done the same thing. One is MCA affiliated and has more classics's while the other is mostly younger members with newer cars and more cruising/driving events. I enjoy both clubs and they both have something to offer to me. I guess it helps that I also have a classic Mustang and a newer one too.

Re: Mustang Clubs... Are you or not?

One thing our club does is to try to get non-members in a position for a trophy art our annual show. We have a good relationship with other clubs in the state and try to attend their shows, and they usually turn out well for our annual event. Our board picks a particular charity each year for the show to contribute to with most of the proceeds from the show going to that charity (CMN, cancer research, alzheimers foundation, pediatric blood pressure foundation, etc.). Our club also has their own logo, and of course t-shirt. We also have a particular shop that does the designs on caps and golf shirts that we aregistered with so anyone can go at anytime and have the logo done up, even if they bring their own item to have it embroidered onto.

Sounds like what we do also. We try and help out a local charities in both clubs and in one the last couple of years we do a "Pink Show" for Breast Cancer complete with pink t-shirts.

Ash, we're members of Westside Mustangs. There are members all over the Houston area, and people post on the board from all over. There are no dues involved, but you can contribute/donate if you'd like. The people we've met are all stand up types. The site is Westsidemustangs.com. They're based in Katy, but there are a lot of members on the north side.

I've never been the kind of person that needs to "belong" or "fit in" with others.

I will attend a local car meet maybe once a year, but I'll never wear the sticker on my car or claim myself as a member.

+1^^^

There's local club here that seem like a nice bunch of guys, I've got a young family and am busy at work and one of the requirements is regular participation. I'd rather show up at whatever local car shows I can make it to as well as the odd drag strip night and hit the local Tuesday night meet about three blocks from my house. Nothing formal, just go, check out other cars and appreciate the company.
The rest I get here.

MCA only. Closest "local" club is 75 miles away. Came close to joining Mustangs of Memphis but our close friend moved away. Still like their shows.
