My shortrunner is on complete and installed :)
After quite a few weeks of grinding, and many many many hours. I finally finished my intake. It was a lot of work.
Runner length is 10.5". I put it on, and surprisingly my air fuel ratio did not change. It actually is smoother. Before my air fuel bounced a little, but now it is staying dead on 12.2 (i'm on e70). The car is pulling very hard up top. This has to be one of my favorite performance mods, along with Cobra cams, and 4.56 gears. PICS! Stock, Inside, Top, and Welded shut

Really impressive. Good work. Can't wait to see it on the road.
He did all the manual labor himself. |

Re: My shortrunner is on complete and installed :)
I did it. Everything but the welding. I can weld steel, but I'm not setup to do aluminum.
I might go to the track tomorrow. Dyno tune is still gonna be a little while. My air fuel reading on my wideband is just fine, so I probably won't go for a while.

Re: My shortrunner is on complete and installed :)
A/F will be fine. I've sold many 96-98 and C head short runners that have been installed without a tune and the a/f ratios were fine. The only thing that really needs to be done is to add some timing down low and to raise the rev limiter if you plan to shift higher.
Did you take any pics of the runner inlets after the inlets were reattached?

I wanna see a pic of the 2010 running horse. How is it different than the stock one?

$100 for the welding Air grinder, electric grinder, grinding wheels, bits from harbor freight It took me about two months working on it a few hours every couple days when I could. The amount of manual labor is ALOT. And mine could have used a lot more cleaning on the runners. Mine came out okay. I don't really have access to the tools that Roy and Todd have, and they have the flow bench and a ton of experience on me. Which is apparent by their work quality vs mine. If you have the cash, buy one from them I wouldn't even do one for someone else for the money they charge, thats how much work is involved. Quote:
I'm not sure what you mean by after the inlets were reattached? I didn't cut them, I started at the top and just grinded milimeters off the top with a large grinder and cutting wheel, until I reached about 10.5". I used a formula I made to determine length of a cylinder given a certain volume of water. So once the runner held the volume I calculate (i forget the amount now), I stopped grinding. The inside looked just like it did in the pic before it got welded. I didn't have the patience to thin out the lips of the runners inside like you do. Quote:

No
I was so excited to drop it off at the welder I barely snapped those 3 pics I posted above with my old outdated cell phone.

Re: My shortrunner is on complete and installed :)
I think my cobra cam'd combo will put down almost as much as your crower cam'd one
I'm hoping to see 340. I put down 315 before long tubes, o/r x, and this intake. I used a real dyno, not one of the ones where we see machs with a catback and drop in filter putting down 300hp. lol

Kudos for going for it. It's a big job but allot can be accomplished without going all out on one of these.

Re: My shortrunner is on complete and installed :)
Finally have enough time to finish version 2. I got a little carried away grinding, so now its more like a 9-9.5" shortrunner.
Working on a more bellmouth style on the inlets, as well grinding down the bridges between the inlets. I just ordered some zspar, and will be using it to fill in some of the valley in the middle. Pics of my current progress. Another two days of filing, then the zspar, and I should be dropping it off at the welder. Any advice on what else I should do? Thanks!

Re: My shortrunner is on complete and installed :)
Version 1 was unsuccessful due to not having bellmouth style inlets, and me leaving them too flat. Which was obstructing air flow. A very critical design flaw, that I was unaware of at the time.
So I had a really smooth dyno curve with version 1, but lost power until 6,800 rpms. The shape of the curve made the car feel stronger and smoother, when it really wasn't. Here is the dyno of the stock intake overlayed with the version 1 intake I made. Very smooth and pretty curve, but was flowing 15% less than it should have due to not having bellmouth inlets.

Hopefully by then I'll have things caught up. I’ve been busier than a one legged man in a as$ kicking contest.
