Lowering Springs??

I'm sure there have been MANY threads about lowering a Mach 1, but I thought I would ask anyway. I'm looking to lower her and not have too rough of a ride.

I have stock wheel & tires, and plan to add 1" wheel spacers soon.

Any suggestions on brand?? What's a good price to look for?

Re: Lowering Springs??

My H&rSS dropped my car about 2".

No matter which one you go with, you will need to change out your shocks and struts as the stockers will not last with a lowered car.

Also, Take a look at some of the wheel picture threads and ask around abotu some of those peoples suspension. you find a stance you like and you just buy what they have!

Re: Lowering Springs??

Eibach Sportlines or the H&R Super Sports are the way to go. You would think it would ride harsh with the stiffer spring rate, but I think it rides better. Even going straight. I went with the softer Eibach Pro's and they handle worse than the Sportlines and H&RSS cars I've driven.

Re: Lowering Springs??

How low do you want to go? If not that much, cut your springs. You control the amount of drop.

I have a full coil off the fronts and hit around 1.5" drop. They are a perfect match to my Eibach pro kit rears. At 3/4 coil IIRC it was less than an inch of drop.

My rears I cut a full coil off too, its a bit too much IMO. They are in my kids Mach now and with the upper iso from the front on top it has a slightly bouncy ride. I'd start with 1/2 coil and go in 1" increments from there and use the front upper iso on top. We will try the lower rear iso installed too at some opint but the car is dead level as is.

My fronts are no isos. Cut them less and you get less drop. The ride isn't bad, stiffer than stock but not bad.

Don't forget to cut the rear pinion snubber rubber in half too.

Free mod and if you hate it, you were buying springs anyway!

Re: Lowering Springs??

I just took the ISO's off of my Eibach Pro Kit becuase I thought it was still to high, it looks so much better!!! I'll post pics. Removing ISO's lowered it about 1/2 inch all the way around and boy can you tell. The car rides better than stock. The Pro Kit is a softer spring.

Eibach Pro Kit w/ all ISO's

Eibach Pro Kit w/ NO ISO's

I've only driven 5 miles with the springs in, so they may settle a tad more.

Also, notice how much better the 275/40's look on the stock wheel in the rear

You can see the LT's in the last pic.

Re: Lowering Springs??

Here is mine. Eibach Pro no ISOs. For cornering the Eibach Pro kit isn't impressive, but my car is being built for the quarter and I needed a soft spring rate. If that wasn't the case I'd have just cut the stockers.

Iso's are what keep the springs from having metal to metal contact... They just slide on and off

Re: Lowering Springs??

If you are worried about noise after removing the iso's just wrap the top and bottom of your springs with electrical tape.

I did that on my previous 01 GT conv. w/ Vogtland springs.

Re: Lowering Springs??

No Isos are good if you dont drive down a bunch of rough roads. Smooth interstate is fine but go down some uneven chiped up bumpy roads and it sucks.. I only have a few like that but have to turn the radio up to not hear all the rattle. ( and I have spent a bunch of time trying to stop the rattle with sound deadening) I have the pros and do not like the ride without the isos. thinking about putting sportlines or steeda with the Isos back in. I guess its what you want.. lower or more comfortable. If i didnt drive my car 7 days a week I probably wouldnt care !!! Hope that helps.

Re: Lowering Springs??

Hmmm, I'm DD mine on rough NJ roads and not a squeak with nary a single iso on any spring. You sure it is your springs making noise? I had a loose license plate out back that made an awful racket, I though it was spring noise too. Double stick taped it and all quiet now.

Re: Lowering Springs??

my suggestion if your not wanting a ruff ride
Steeda sport springs
new isolators (MM sells some good ones)
Bilstein HD's
(shocks and struts are really going to help it not be a ruff ride) but maybe they aren't in your budget just yet so get em later
also with steeda springs you don't need CC plates (because of how far it drops)
if i was going for a non ruff ride this is the set up i would go, but for me i would put CC plates on there, but they aren't needed with those springs

Well seeing as southern california streets F'ing suck HARD( well most of 'em do) I'll keep my iso's on.

Another question( not trying to thread jack) would it be dumb to put on my bilstein HD's, cc plates, and sportlines before I get my rims back? They are drying off because they just got painted, or should I just wait and put them all on at once?

^ Yeah I put my aftermarket wheels on before putting in my sportlines and my car looks like a rock crawler! Doesn't bother me much, I'll get to it eventually
