Supercharging an Auto..

Ok I'll make this short and sweet to save time.. If Im looking for ~400rwhp with my 03 automatic, mostly stock (exhaust, intake, canned tune), what are my best options for a dependable DD? No nitrous and doesnt see the track more than twice a year. Procharger and maybe some 4.10's? Kenne bell 9 psi kit? Stay n/a and do cams and head work? Open to opinions...thanks!

Re: Supercharging an Auto..

I have an auto with a Procharger, 4.10's and a stall. You would be better off with a Procharger and a stall(imo) and keep the stock gears, you can always do the gears later if you want but I think you'll be happy with the SC and stall.

Re: Supercharging an Auto..

I am just about to pull the trigger on a non-intercooled Vortech kit, it is the best Bang for the Buck.

My car already has 4.10s, but if it didn't I would have stayed with stock 3.55s and even te stock converter for now.

My advice, just bolt on any Supercharger and have fun.

Price it right and you can do the whole deal for under $5000 installed for a non-intercooled centrif or $6000 for an intercooled.

KB intercooled will run you $8000 installed.

If you can handle the install, knock off $1000.

Re: Supercharging an Auto..

Well Im going to need to rebuild the rear end anyway bc ive got the dreaded one wheel peel.. Im going to go with 31 spline axles/frpp posi and was thinking it would be a good time for gears.

Hows the upkeep and matinence of the procharger or any centri compared to say a kenne bell? Also can you explain your reasoning for going non intercooled opposed to intercooled? Besides price.. And as far as install goes if I can get a full kit Im sure I can handle it with a rough tune from my tuner till I get it on the dyno.

Re: Supercharging an Auto..

Wow, I don't agree with this...

If you only want 400ish hp, Your BEST Bang for the Buck is gonna be an Eaton Swap. It will give you tons of low end, you can keep your stock gearing and the best part is the price. I have seen tons of complete kits for around 3K or LESS. Also, with pulley swaps and port work (with obvious fuel support) these can push over 700hp. These can go 100K+ miles on a 03/04 Cobra so the Drive-ability and Dependability will be just what your looking for.

A Roots style Blower like this will really pep up that Automatic.

BTW, non-intercooled means higher charge temps and less power.
also, there are tons of members on here with the Eaton Swap, so How-to's & Support should be easy to find on here.

Re: Supercharging an Auto..

I would think the short 1st gear of the 5sp would help getting into the power band of a centrifugal. But I'm still going Eaton swap on mine. Idk how the gearing is on the automatics.

Honestly, price is the main reason I am going non-intercooled on the centrifugal.

Close 2nd is the easier install without the intercooler.

Also, I've said it before, I would love an Eaton kit if they made one, but I don't feel like going through the hassle of finding all the parts.

No heaton will come close to 700hp. The highest numbers I have seen around 520-540ish rwhp

Re: Supercharging an Auto..

No reason to go non intercooled. The Procharger kit is intercooled all inclusive and not that hard to install. I would go with 31 Spline axles and if you see some track time don't go any higher than 3.73's. I am trapping in the 6800 area with 4.10's and am going back to 3.55's. I can't get taller tires and when I up the boost with my new motor the 4.10's will be way to tall. I have a 3200 stall now and I am having it re stalled to 4500. Don't fear the stall.

Re: Supercharging an Auto..

If you are not going to intercool, think about methanol injection. Snow and AEM make meth injection kits.
