HELP! Front brakes wont go on!

Done many brakes....went to change my fronts with EBC green stuff pads. I compressed the pistons all the way on with the tool...and they wont go over the rotor. Its like a few mm off. I went and screwed it in again until I couldnt anymore and they still wont go over.

Someone please tell me what I am doing wrong before I flip....

Re: HELP! Front brakes wont go on!

Where did you buy them from?

Most parts stores. like O'Rielly's, list GT brakes for the Mach 1 so you have to ask for Cobra brake parts.

Yes, Make sure they work for Machs and Cobras. GTs are different.

Re: HELP! Front brakes wont go on!

so are the pistons compressed all the way in?

just cuz you cant turn the clamp or whatever your using to compress the pistons in doesnt mean there all the way in.

i always crack open the bleeder on the caliper before compressing the pistons back in.

Re: HELP! Front brakes wont go on!

I had the same problem when I tried to put ECB pads on my fronts. Gave up and got some Hawk pads.

Re: HELP! Front brakes wont go on!

EBC puts a "quick break-in " layer on their pads, but i don't think they compensate by making the actual pad matl. any thinner( a few thousand's of an inch)
unless you had the rotors shaved you'll probably have to remover some/all of the break-in matl. to get things to go together

Re: HELP! Front brakes wont go on!

I had the same problem with the pads, I am sticking with Hawk now. The price is very fair for the great quality and fit.

Also, did you get your Mach at Port Motors in West Palm? I think I drove that car when I was in the market for mine.

Re: HELP! Front brakes wont go on!

Well after inspecting all of my brakes I concluded that they all had plenty of life left on them. They were just squeaking but I guess it was just build up. I sprayed brake cleaner on all of my brake components, buttoned her up and everything is fine. I think I will chuck the EBC pads. They were free anyways.

Re: HELP! Front brakes wont go on!

Funny stuff, it was very clean and smooth. I was selling my truck at the time and they weren't really fair on what they wanted to give me (they offered 16K and I sold it for 25K). You must have picked it up right after I drove it, I almost bought the DSG one they had after it but I held out for the Azure Blue I wanted.

Re: HELP! Front brakes wont go on!

The DSG was nice...but it was modded and I dont want a car that I think may have been run hard.

I was originally driving around looking for a V6 or older GT for a daily because my GT was becoming less streetable by the day. I saw that Mach and it was love at first site. I bought it 01.10.10

Glad you found a nice one! The AB makes one sexy Mach!

Re: HELP! Front brakes wont go on!

That was another reason I didn't go with the DSG or the Azure in Miami, both felt like they have been beat for a while.

Thanks and your car looks great, I was debating on doing the same black add-ons, my 02 GT was blacked out but I got lucky and found the AFS 17x10's a week after I got the car.

Re: HELP! Front brakes wont go on!

lol, I had them up for sale for a week because I thought I was going to have to sell the car. I lost my job due to a buy out 3 months before my wife and I were moving to Texas. I got the great news 2 days ago that the severance package the new company promised all the head office staff came through so I can keep the car.

Somebody has a set that needs new tires and a refinish for $850, I paid $900 without tires for mine os it is a good deal.
