Spring and C/C install

Got quoted on a spring and C/C plate install today... 350-375 this does not include an alignment. Is this acceptable?

Re: Spring and C/C install

3-4 hours and a few tools, you could do it yourself, then pay the $50 or so for the alignment.

Re: Spring and C/C install

the prices that most people have always give on here that it should be was alot less than what i could ever find in WA state, seems people get the hook up
Well i would find out how man hours install is on springs and also how long install is on CC plates and most places are i believe $90bucks a hour
that be another way to figure out what a est cost should be
also have you went by any other shops to ask them what they charger
also like already said you can do it yourself. i would plan on all day but they aren't that bad to install

Re: Spring and C/C install

I tried once. I need air tools... Some of those bolts aren't moving. Also, why did a Ford dealer just quote me on a four wheel alignment?

Re: Spring and C/C install

I wouldn't tackle that job unless you are pretty handy. A little heat on those bolts will help get those bolts loose.

I would not pay to have someone install your springs or shocks. I didnt think I had the know how to do them myself but Im glad I gave it a shot. Really a few hours and its nothing. I actually did have a shop install my caster camber plates though for about 75 bucks. I figured that was well worth it since springs/struts is just a replacement with not a lot of room for error, I didnt wanna take the chance on the CC plates. Just spray those bolts with wd40 and put some force behind it and you should be fine. Theres plenty of write up online to walk you through the install as well.

Re: Spring and C/C install

I can certainly understand not wanting to do it yourself too but if you have a full day (thats giving you a lot of time if you run into issues) you should be able to get it. PB blaster on those bolts and a breaker bar. However I was quoted 400 for springs, cc plates, and an alignment. Seems somewhat fair but I ended up doing it myself and am happy with it.

Re: Spring and C/C install

Only remotely challenging part of the strut/spring/CC plate install for me was getting the top nut off the struts. Ended up dropping them with the stock camber plates attached and taking them to a shop to have them separated with an impact wrench. Also keep in mind that air tools on the strut shaft is bad for them if you go that route.

If you do decide to tackle the job, below are a couple of links here at M1R that could help you with the install as well as align your own car.

Re: Spring and C/C install

You could buy an air tank and tools kit for $300-$400 and do it yourself, so at the end of the day you'd spend about the same, but now you have the tools for next time.
