Post Consumer Reports Wholesale Mach 1 Price

The following may be of interest to those shopping for a Mach 1

I purchased a Consumer Reports (CR) new car price report for both 2003 and 2004 Mach 1s. If you are serious about purchasing any new car I would highly recommend these reports prior to negotiating.

2003 2004
Base Invoice $26,224 $26439
Destination Chg $625 $625
Rebate ($4000) ($3000)
Tot Dealer Invoice $22849 $24064
Dealer Holdback ($861)~ ($869)~
CR Wholesale Price $21988* $23,195*

Add $307 for Interior Upgrade Package (IUP), and $725 for auto trans

CR says car "dealers are entitled to a reasonble profit", and that 4-8% over wholesale price is reasonable.

That would be $22,868-23,747 for an 03 and $24,123-25,051 for an 04 (excluding IUP and auto trans, $750 military discount, and any ford plans e.g A-plans, X-plans).

Since the 05s are bound to put increased price pressure on the 03/04s you may be able to get an even better deal.

Hope this is useful

Notes
*Consumer Reports Wholesale Price is, "the place to start when negotiating. It takes into account the current dealer incentives and holdbacks that may be in effect" (Consumer Reports Definition).

~"Dealer Holdback - A percentage of the total MSRP that the manufacturer holds and then gives back to the dealer, often at the end of the year or quarter. Holdback may vary from dealer to dealer and may depend upon other factors such as dealer quotas." (Consumer Reports Definition).

This may sound silly, but what is IUP?

Sorry, I went braindead. I didn't think about INTERIOR UPGRADE PACKAGE. Doh!
