Lightbulb Overhead console

Anyone here put an overhead console on there mustang? Im getting ready to modify one to put in mine. It'll have 2 gauges in the front and a few of my switches further back. The front will be have a slit cut out with radar detector inside so you really cant see from outside or inside. I cant wait.

Mines going to be colored the same as the regular interior front end will have the radar inside of it and then right behind it ill build up the front area enough for two gauages which will probly take up to most of the first door which will be sealed and the second door will be my switches wired to the detector, under car neons, etc. then the third or maybe third door will have a mini fuse (4-6) panel which all that stuff will be wired too.

Heres a link of where I got the idea from www.jmsproductsinc.com.

Tell me what you guys think or if you have any ideas to add to this. Any suggestions.

Also if anyone knows, in my expedition I have the overhead console that has the mini computer telling you how much MPG your doing, Average MPG, How much till empty etc. What gauges/sensors is it connected too? Id really like to hook that up in there too. If not oh well.

Re: Overhead console

Re: Overhead console

Now thats a cool idea if you are average height or short. I put all my switches in the arm rest and guages in my glove box. Never thought of this but being 6"6" it would probably not work for me. Once installed take pics with you in the car.

Re: Overhead console

Keep us updated on this one. Would love the idea of something besides that cheap looking fish net up there. Post some pics when you finish up.

Re: Overhead console

With me only being 5'7" ish I should be ok. The console would be in the middle so wouldnt hit your head but might not help out to much if your tall. Ive always liked this idea in my other cars but never did them because they didnt look very good. Always looked cheesy to me. I wanted it to look factory so what better way then to buy a ford part to put up there.

If anyone is interested its a Windstar van overhead console. I found this kit from calmustang I think (pretty sure) And it was $800! I found a used one on ebay for $35 shipped. Very good deal. Everything looks clean so when I get this week it will go to the die guy to stain it color of my interior like my gauge pod. You cant see the differance between colors.

Re: Overhead console

I voted no, just cuz to me it would seem kinda distracting while you are driving. The idea is cool, I just wouldn't put one in because I'm probably too short

Re: Overhead console

Ok Its cool but ..... You vote no? I dont think I did the poll right. LOL I honestly dont care if anyone else likes it but find it funny when someone says they think its cool Then votes no for some other reason.

Distraction wise many vehicles have overhead consoles on them. Why would you be looking up at it when your driving? ISnt that rather large shaker a distraction? I find myself looking at it all the time shaking around. Ill have to see when I get it later this week how much it will be in the way but dont think it will be a problem.

Re: Overhead console

Looks too obtrusive. Plus unecessary extra weight.

Re: Overhead console

I odnt have neons, was just giving example of switches. I dont have a radar detector either. I mainly wanted a place to put my gauges and I really dont like the one on the steering colume or adding more in the gauge area like most people already have. I have the triple gauge pod now and thought it would be cool to have 2 gauges up there. Didnt think it was that bad an idea... Oh well I will see friday when it gets here.
