Any advice for hopeful Mach owner??

Hi to all.

I've been saving two years now and the time has finally come....
I've found an '03 azure, bone stock. Going to do last minute check-up before purchase. Anything I should watch out for?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
Can't wait to be a mach-driving member next week!!

If you cannot, look for obvious stuff like any kind of fluid leaks, check everything electrical (wipers, signals, etc), run (or have someone run) a carfax, and test drive like it is going to be driven.

Welcome !

Re: Any advice for hopeful Mach owner??

I would just like to say, Beware of whiplash because the Mach is still one of the fastest American cars out there today even bone stock.

Also be prepared for premium fuel only. Get us some pics!!!!

Obtain one with low mileage - you will want to drive it, A LOT!

They are out there. If you've been patient for two years, another few months won't set you back to purchase exactly what you are looking for...

Re: Any advice for hopeful Mach owner??

1. Buy the car fax report. I eliminated many cars due to discrepancies on the car fax. Like mileage that did not agree with the odometer reading, Damage reports on car fax. Just because it is not on car fax does not mean the car was not damaged. Run you finger around the entire door, hood and trunk seams you are trying to find rough edges from a repaint. The factory should be smooth. Under the hood look at the fender mounting bolts and see if the fender was moved. You cal tell by the marks on the paint by the bolts.
2. Get the VIN # take it to the Ford service department and ask the to pull up the repair history on the car.
3. Go to auto trader and search for Ford, Mustang, key word mach 1, any distance and see what the asking price is.
4. Sell everything you have, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...159549490&rd=1 you have just entered the realm of NEED FOR SPEED
5. ENJOY

Re: Any advice for hopeful Mach owner??

Torch red is the fastest color, ask Wild Bill. Also make sure you check for odd sounds like humming from the rear. Mine needs axle bearings. Also brakes, even if you do them yourself are expensive. But at 19000 miles you should be OK. Price seems good also. Good luck. Oh yea and make room in your garage for doors. And say goodbye to all your friends with chebbys or dodges or pontiwrecks you will loose many as you embarrass them in your Mach.

What about the infamous 'tick' I keep reading about? Is that a real problem to worry about guys? I read the 04's got rid of the tick, but that the 03's had a noticeable tick on the left head.

I've heard of the cobras having a tick, didnt know it applied to the machs also. I'll watch out for it.

Stick or auto???
Go to the TSB section and read up on all the issues then look for them. If still under warrenty then take it in. If not then try some of the fixes yourself except for the tick of course.

I have an 03 with 19K on the clock and no tick yet. Car has made about 75 passes down the track as well. It is related to an over heated drivers side head. I don't hot lap the car and cool it all the way down between runs.

If it has the tick then its just an excuse to pull the heads and have them PPd and rebuilt with new cans, springs, valves etc.

Good luck.

Make sure whenever you walk away from your car, you turn around and look at it for a few seconds at least, completely stunned at how you are fortunate enough to own such a thing of beauty....
