Re: Dodge charger
I've smacked around an R/T without any trouble so my guess is a stock mach would only have trouble with an SRT8.

Re: Dodge charger
I could walk SRT-8 Chargers when i just had SLP weld in mufflers. They may have alot of HP but are way too heavy.

Re: Dodge charger
I've killed an R/T with 20" rims on the freeway, and pulled on an SRT-8 as well. Alotta power but heavy. I haven't seen an R/T break into the 13's at the rack yet.

Re: Dodge charger
If they was able to shave off maybe 500 lbs then the charger would be close in weight to the mach which wouldn't be good for you guys though and them dang 20 in rims thats alittle over doing it 18 should be the max lol. Do you guys know what a ruff estimate of the difference in weight between 18's and 20's?

Re: Dodge charger
In the past threads, it was said that they ran low to mid 13's... True? I don't know... I've seen them go down to 12's pretty easily though.

Re: Dodge charger
I think that like most model of cars there are the people who bought, hook line and sinker, the salesmans line that they are the fastest car on the street. Chrysler has none an incredible job of making the "It's got a hemi" ad campaign a success. Now, for their actual performance... I've had guys that swore they were showroom stock and turn around 13.0 with the R/T. Then the next guy with the same car pulls to the line and and cannot get out of the 14's. I personally don't belive that a actual stock R/T is faster than mid-13's AT BEST. There was an SRT-8 at Speedworld (AZ) a month ago that the owner had pulled the original engine and had it stroked (lots of $$, no sense). This car was beautiful and sounded bad to the bone. I spend all night waiting for this guy to run. He iced the intake, talked a blue streak in the pits about how fast this car was... and by the sound everyone believed every single word (even me). When he finally ran it was around 13.2. What a dissapointment. A true example of someone putting way too much $$ in the engine only and not working on the whole package. There must have been 250 wasted hp that did nothing but eat up tire rubber.
Bottom line... R/T=13.5, SRT-8=12.95 (Best possible conditions, best possible driver, best possible track, best possible tune). I think that like with the 60's vintage hemi's, the SRT-8 has the potential, but few are smart enough to tap the best it can do. Only my .02 and experience watching dozens at the track. Keep in mind Phoenix is 1300ft and sometimes VERY hot. |

Re: Dodge charger
I haven't actually purchased a mach yet but i'm really interested in them but i've also like the charger's looks and yes it does have some good power numbers but there just so dang heavy. I like the awd option for the r/t but would perfer an srt8 lol. Most likely I will get a mach when i make my purchase in 2009, but i was throwing around some ideas like a t/a but thats a whole other thing thanks guys for responding.

Re: Dodge charger
My buddie was running low to mid 13's in his SRT-8 Jeep. Not bad for a SUV.......
Mods Besides the K&N, I had the low-speed fan relay pulled the for the entire evening and coolant temps stayed between 190 & 195°.

Re: Dodge charger
My buddy just bought and SRT8, very nice car. These are high speed cruisers, they do not have the pull the Mach does, but at 140 the car is smooth as hell. I guess they are good for 173 top speed. They are not geared for the quarter mile either. I wonder what difference that would make, you just can't change the weight thing with much success. I still love the car and if I was looking at a cruisin type car I would buy one.

Re: Dodge charger
Im not sure how a simple bolt-on Mach is walking from any of the SRT-8s. Our Magnum runs 13.1s@105-106 on a 1.96 60', with just weld in mufflers. Thats running door to door with the vast majority of Machs. If you look at those freak 12.9 runs, for either the Machs or SRT-8s, its not in the same conditions. This was at 65-70* and humid. Id say its a drivers race.
The R/Ts arent going to run 13.5s stock. They are pretty consistent at 14.0-14.2 depending on track conditions. They can easily run in the mid 13s with a few bolt-ons though. Not much of a threat to a Mach, but for a GT, Id watch out.

Re: Dodge charger
I researched the chargers as well. Unless you get the SRT8..dont' bother. I test drove a daytona then researched them. The R/Ts and Daytona's are mid 14s (low at best). The SRT8s are high 12s, low 13s.
Mid 13s for an R/T (or) Daytona is BS....ESPECIALLY stock.

That a very fair statement....the 5.7 HEMI's have have to spend a grand or so to even smidge high 13's...No contest for the Mach's...

Re: Dodge charger
A black R/T with red stripes pulled up to me about a month ago at a stop light . The driver and his buddy were wearing sunglasses and looked like those to guys from the movie BULLITTE . He reved up his motor and I reved mine up. His sounded like a Honda compaired to mine. lol We left the lite together and once my car hooked all he saw was tail lights. I think its better to launch from lower rpms. Mach1s spin the tires too much on take off. Im sure a set of slicks would have helped. Id say I had him by at least 2 to 2 and half cars the whole time. They passed me latter and gave me thumbs up.. Cool guys
