Yeah, hurricane season again!!
Happy June 1st, especially to those along the gulf coast. Maybe we can catch a break this year. Anyone do anything different to prepare this year?
I was going to get shutters around the house but haven't yet. The roll downs with motors would have run me ~$20K just for the back porch I may still get accordians but this year I'll be slapping the plywood back up. |

Re: Yeah, hurricane season again!!
I purchased another generator this year for my pump house and had it wired for 220. We went without water last time for a total of over 20 days due to the three hurricanes. I kepr all my lumber and sheet metal for my windows and doors. Two years ago I put the Mach in the barn and almost lost it and the barn. The wind blew so hard, 101 MPH that the barn leaned but never went down. I have a concrete block garage now and the Mach will be parked in it for this years hurricanes. I hope we can skip them again this year but I don't think we will. I'm in central Florida, and good luck to you guys on the east and west coasts, that's where the wind is the strongest.

Re: Yeah, hurricane season again!!
Well I still haven't finished my house from Katrina. I am hoping to be back in within the next 2 weeks so hopefully nothing will come my way before then.
As for preperations....I have plywood for the windows and a nice shinny AR-15 just incase I decide to ride one out. Here is the funny part of it all. "Experts" are saying it is going to be another busy season predicting 13-16 Total storms. How is that another "Busy" season considering we had 28 last year.....13-16 seems like a walk in the park. They are also only predicting 4-6 of them to be Cat 3 or higher compared to last years total of 4 Cat 5's alone. |

Re: Yeah, hurricane season again!!
New generator and some storm shutters here. Haven't taken any major hits in my area for a long time, but we still got some pretty strong effects.

Re: Yeah, hurricane season again!!
I did pick up a generator when Wilma rolled through, had it on for all of 10 minutes when the power came back on. I should pull that out and run the stabil out of it to some fresh gas.

Re: Yeah, hurricane season again!!
Hopefully we can have a very mild season compared to what we are getting "used" to. I would recommend getting some extra ammo, just in case. You have to protect whats yours.

Re: Yeah, hurricane season again!!
Wow it is that time of year again, I want to say good luck to all of you in areas that can be hit directly and those prone to the flooding as the storms move inland.
I wish you all well and keep the family safe |

Re: Yeah, hurricane season again!!
Well here we go again. I'm in the panhandle. Getting new plywood this year.
Will be sawing for window fit this weekend. Got the generator primed and ready. Getting my extra gas containers filled this weekend. Got enough water for 5 days for family of 4. MRE's on the way. Man, I hate this crap. 3 years in a row whats up with that. Luckily I have a garage for the Mach. Rodog Shalimar Fl. |

Re: Yeah, hurricane season again!!
Man, this area is so torn-up from Katrina! There's already 65K homes damaged/destroyed from that storm...now theres FEMA trailers everywhere so if we get hit again Biloxi might as well close its doors....yes its that bad here! I got orders to Germany though so my home which received no damage is for sale.....I hope someonejums on it!

Re: Yeah, hurricane season again!!
im in beaumont here, stayed last time, if anyone is around the area, ill have another hurricane stay party, lol, this time there will be a keg, the only thing that we didnt have here was enough gas, but i went um..... how you say.........."finding" (scored my buddys boat tanks), its hard to run a 18500 watt generator, and the dvd, surround sound, a/c , coffee maker, and my 600watt blender,tv, and everything else, heck i cooked a $75 brisket, feed a bunch of people and even the cops stoped buy to get coffee, and chat, this year we should have more anti looter weapons, we only had 30 loaded arms last time, its was like a war zone, but with lots of booze, a dude shot a guy down the road from me, it really wasnt that bad, felt bad for other people not as well of as i was, so during the day we went around to the ice points and drove though neighborhoods and gave out ice to help out ,it was too hot during the day to drink anyways.

Just put a new roof on the house. Going to trim the trees. Filling up the gas cans this weekend for the generator. Food and water when and if the time comes. Always hope for the best,
