cuttind springs
ok got the mach 1 and wanted to buy springs to lower the car, but i also wanted to know about cutting them, i want it to set good and also ride and handle good, but at the same time not kill my launch? can i do that. i thought if i cut the spring it would save me money p;us it would still ride abotu the same, and launch the same, sence it is the same spring.. is this true or will it miss up something or not turn out the way i want it...???i will also be putting the tokicio adj on and the cc plates??

Re: cuttind springs
it's not the same spring if you cut it. if you don't have money to buy springs then wait. if you're already spending a certain amount of money on to the tokicos and cc plates then just add $200+ and you can get a nice spring too

Re: cuttind springs
Not a good idea to cut your springs. I purchased the Steeda superlite sport springs and the drop wasn't as low as I had expected. I called Steeda and asked about cutting them and they told me not to do it.

Re: cuttind springs
I took about 7/8 of one coil out of the back, and about 3/4 coil out of the front. I'm happy. Any time you lower the car, it will be a little stiffer and harder to launch, However with decent tires I ran a 1.77 60ft. Not too bad. But the car looks way better.

Re: cuttind springs
cutting stock springs is perfectly fine if youre on a budget. I'd say cut 3/4 or a full coil off front and about 1/2 to 3/4 off the rear. Will drop you a little over an inch in the front and a little less than an inch in the rear. Give you an awesome rake. Ive rode in cars w/ cut factory coils that rode 10 times better than others w/ eibach or something else. And if youre gunna buy springs, dont buy eibach or any company who has theirs made by eibach (steeda is one of em). Buy vogtland or H&R. Two best coil makers.

Re: cuttind springs
i wouldnt do it, springs are relativily cheap. but it really cant hurt much besides ride quality.
i sold my stock rears for 65.00 to someone a while ago, im sure you can find a GT that would want all mach 1 springs and shocks/struts. up to you though! |

Re: cuttind springs
If he doesn't like the finished result he can always buy a set of used Mach springs in here. Just remember that you should allow a little bit of room for when the springs settle. Also, you should not let the springs get extremely hot for too long while cutting them. Cut them a little and then dip them in cool water to cool quickly. The springs will lose strength if they are hot for too long.

Re: cuttind springs
I had a used V6 before the Mach and it came with clipped springs. It went through rear shocks in a matter of months and bottomed out on the pumpkin on big bumps. Obviously I don't know how much had been clipped but it was definitely too much.
