Hood Struts...2 to choose from.

I am going to replace my hood prop with a set of hood struts. There are 2 different setups to choose from. Of the 2, which one appears better? Anyone else installed these, and if so how well do they work? Here are the 2 different options:

Thanks,
Matt

Re: Hood Struts...2 to choose from.

Do a search on here. The second one i believe is better than the first but theres one better than both. I believe its and mrt one. Its a bolt on with no drilling required. The first one is a bolt on but look how far down the hood it is. I think that would put stress on it over time and crack the hood.

Re: Hood Struts...2 to choose from.

The first one does not require drilling. I clicked on the pictures on the install and it appears that it uses holes already in the hood for support. I just wonder how well they are built and if they even work. I hate it when a hood or trunk strut fails.

Re: Hood Struts...2 to choose from.

I noticed that but look how far down it bolts on. It doesn't look like it provides support for the actuall weight of the hood.

Re: Hood Struts...2 to choose from.

Scroll half way down to the red mach one and look at the mounting location of it. It helps support the hood better than the first one you posted and it also requires no drilling.

Re: Hood Struts...2 to choose from.

I don't like the mounting points of those Prolifts in the first link. I have the Redlines and am very happy with them... and the drilling is really no big deal (measure twice, cut once ). If the CDC or MRT's were out at the same time I bought the Quicklift Elites though, I probably would've gone that route because of the no drilling part.

Re: Hood Struts...2 to choose from.

I bought the Red Line Tuning set (before the MRT setup came out). That's my DSG Mach on the E-bay brochure.

It's definitely a toss-up. I have not had a problem with either the installation or the performance of the Red Line product.

You choice Sir!

Re: Hood Struts...2 to choose from.

I like the no drilling of the MRT's.

But I like the look of the Redlines better. I have had Redlines on my 02GT and now on my Mach1. It's really not that big of a deal popping a couple rivets into the hood with the Redlines.

Either way, Redline and MRT are great companies with excellent customer service. You cant go wrong with either one of them.

However, my choice. Redlines.

Re: Hood Struts...2 to choose from.

Redlines here and no issues. Love the look and the product. I do not like the look of the MRT's, but the no drilling is a plus. I thought about the drilling and decided if I wanted to take them off (Must be mental to do that! No prop rod is the bomb) I would just fill the holes, sand and re-paint. No biggie here. Hell, I have done worse to my car that took it away from stock.

Re: Hood Struts...2 to choose from.

Question to paint or not to paint? Trying to decide whether to paint the new mrt brackets white to match the car or leave them black? What do you fellow stangers think?

Good idea. I think they'd probably look better painted.

The red Mach1 is mine and I love the Redline Elites. The drilling is not an issue at all, the instructions are easy to follow. I've seen the MRT's in person and they look good too. The prop rods should go.

Re: Hood Struts...2 to choose from.

Unless I missed it no body said what the warranty was on the MRT. I know on my Redline Elites it is four years on the gas in the strut. Also the Elite's are stainless steel struts. Are the MRT's? I'm a Happy camper with Redlines but I do like the no drilling with MRT's
